Help! I Need Computer Help!
I gotta post this quick before my internet connection goes down. Something on my computer is killing my bandwidth. I believe that it's spyware that I got from using EDonkey/Overnet. When I check my activity, it shows that I'm sending over 18 MB in just 10 minutes. Is that normal? I've run AdAware 6.0, and I've run Spybot Search & Destroy several times. I believe that I removed all of the spyware, but my bandwidth is still getting killed.

What should I do?

1. Could be a virus replicating and sending itself.
Have you updated your antivirus software and run a full system scan?

2. run a quick virus scan
could be any number of viruses doing that nasty stuff. Also, less likely, but unless you have a firewall up (like Personal Firewall or some variant) you just MIGHT have someone lurking around your system...but take a look at the virus thing first.

3. I've been having the same problem.
Can't find out what the hell is wrong. Have used AdAware, Spybot, Norton's. It's driving me nuts.

4. How do you check to see how many MB you are sending?
I'd like to run that test on mine.

8. I Have a Little Icon In The Lower Right Hand Corner
It looks like two computer monitors layered over one another. I click on that and it shows activity on my system.

13. It's a representation of the network connection.
Dial-up, DSL, Cable, etc.

You can display it by changing a preference (check "Show Icon in Notification Area when Connected") in the Network settings in Control Panel.

6. You could try pcpitstop.
and try running their diagnostic check. It's free and I've seen it recommended by other DUers. I've run it out of curiosity on my own PC and it came up clean.

7. What firewall are you running?
I had Zone Alarm Pro but it was sucking tons of bandwidth. I've sinced switched to Sygate and have no such problems now.

11. Startup editing:
First, run Spybot SD. Go to the system tab and hit "start up." Disable anything that looks/sounds suspect. Then restart.

Now Cntrl+alt+dlte. See if anything there looks suspicious. Google it and kill it.
