Christian Version Of American Idol Could Soon Hit TV
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The management company that represents Britney Spears and 'N Sync wants to create a Christian version of the popular American Idol TV show.

"Gifted" is scheduled to debut in October on Trinity Broadcasting Network, the Costa Mesa, Calif.-based conglomerate that features such well-known evangelists as Benny Hinn, and reaches 70 million homes.

The Orlando-based Wright Entertainment Group is part of a joint venture with Matt Crouch, son of the founders of Trinity Broadcasting Network, to create the talent-search show, Wright spokesman Philip McIntyre told the Orlando Sentinel for Friday editions.

McIntyre said the joint venture, called Wright Generation, is negotiating with a private investor to finance the project.

6. There are actually some good "Christian" acts out there
Sadly, most of the genre of "Christian Music" is terrible. But Sixpence None The Richer has done some excellent modern prog-rock, and their religious references are few and well-placed.

There are other bands, too, but I am not up on the genre. Christian music really needs a savior in the A&R department.

9. There are some really great Christian rock bands around
but I doubt those will be the types to feature on this show. You'll just get more canned pop, just like all the other crap we hear on top 40 these days.

12. Most entertaining thing about TBN shows was Matt Crouch's wife
She had the "big haired rocker slut" look going on (this was back in the 80's). I used to have a lot of impure unholy thoughts about her while watching the Jesus rock videos on that channel

She makes Tammy Faye Baker look fucking Amish by comparison.

17. Prediction:
This show will be hit by a scandal; one of their performers will have a secret!

(Hey, considering the hypocrites that most fundies are... it ain't like I'm going out on a limb, here.)

This is gonna be fun.

18. ROTFLMAO! How is the show NOT Christian?
It's the epitome of the version of Christianity those in power like. It's mindless, it keeps people under control, it makes them feel important by giving them the ability to vote (under controlled conditions, mind you...)

How about a Muslim version?

Hindi version?

This is utter ridiculousness.
