Question about spyware
I think I have some kind of spybug that loads pictures of ads from previous pages I have visited onto the subsequent pages I open up. For example, I sometimes will visit a page, say it's Yahoo, and in the spot where the ad is supposed to be an ad from the previous page loads. Does anybody know what I am talking about?

1. Spyware can easily
be removed with some free programs. DO a google search on "Adaware" or "Spybot"
After you find the homepage for either program, be sure to hit their "Webupdate" button to get the most recent file and then run the program. Both search for spyware in the same way that anti-virus programs search for virus and trojan horses on your computer.

2. I have Ad-aware and AOL Spyware protection
I also manually remove any cookies that are left over. I am just wondering what the name of this bug is.

3. Can't help you with the name, but
Spybot will get things that Ad aware misses. It also creates a file so you can see what the cookies are and where they come from.

4. Not sure
what the name of this particular bug might be. Sorry. Ad-aware gives the names of the bugs that it finds, though. If you run it, that should tell you.

13. AO-Hell spyware protection??
I would trust AOL to remove spyware about as much as I trust PNAC to bring democracy to the planet.

5. it's drawing a stored ad from your cache
that's normal. It's a bandwidth saving measure. And since you're using AOL it's an integrated part of their browser.

7. you can only write technical training courses for so long
before it bleeds over into everything else you write. I was just glad to see a tech question that I could answer!

8. LOL....
when i can't sleep, i see how many TLAs (three letter acronyms, for non-techies) i can come up with !!!! It works every time !!!

PS: ALL the machines i worked on this week were bogged down with spyware, many with over 100 incidents, i think it's slowing the entire internet too.

10. the constant HTML calls that spyware generates
will definitely decrease the ability of web servers to spool wanted content as opposed to machine requested content. However, web companies with proprietary browsers like MSN and AOL integrate adware and use precache algorithms to reduce ad traffic, it's the companies that DON'T do that where the problem is. Believe me, I am no fan of either AOL or MSN, but they do have an innovative solution to generating ad revenue.

9. I hate the people who make these things.
I have so many bugs at home, I have to re-install an operating system and clear everything out of my computer.
