Any coin collectors in the house tonight?
Maybe somebody can tell me what this is, I found it years ago among my father's things. I'm not sure it's even a coin, there's no denomination nor a year. I don't even see a mintmark. On the reverse:"Kaiserpalais BERLIN" and the obverse simply states that Wilhelm II is the emperor of Germany and the king of Prussia.
Any clues?

2. Na. Wilhelm II abdicated in 1918.
I figure it maybe before 1910.

3. It looks like a medal
meant to commemorate an event or a place...

5. Go0 to Google Advanced Search and

in the single word box, put 'coin'. In the exact phrase box put 'kaiserpalast' and on the second pass, put 'kaiserpalais' (the first wording being German the second French) and search on both versions. You will be taken to coin pages where you can match the face and back of the coin until you find it.

My suspicion is that, if as you say, the coin reads 'kaiserpalais' it's from the Alsace-Lorraine area or the areas where France and Germany intersected. The areas are very bilingual and it would make sense there that a coin would have German imagery and french spelling.

God luck and come back to tell us what you found, eh?

6. Good observation.
Unfortunatelly no info on the few sites that came up and no coin pages.
It does say "Kaiserpalais" and your point is a good one. That may help.
I'll have to search very creatively on this one.
I appreciate your input, thanks!

For a time French was used as the language of the Prussian nobility; many French words found their way into German.

The building in question is now known as the "Altes Palais", part of Humboldt University. The Kaiserpalast AKA Stadtschloß was a different building.

The "coin" is IMHO a medal; AFAIK all Imperial coins had a denomination written on them. It is probbaly late 19th century or early 20th. (1888-1918)

7. Likely, without dates or ID marks
it's a special commemorative thing, kile a medallion celebrating the anniversary of the kaiserpalais or something. That would be my guess.
