Man, the Discovery channel sucks a bucket of wet shit!!!
I remember back in the good ol' days when if there wasn't really anything on normal television I could flip on the discovery channel and find something interesting and educational. At any given time I could turn it on and find out about topics ranging from prehistoric life, to ancient cultures, to cutting edge technology, to space. That is not the case today.

Now I can't turn on the Discovery channel without watching a marathon of American Chopper, Monster Garage, Monster House, American Hot Rod, American Casino, Motorcycle Mania, or any number of those god damn home decorating shows. All of which have VERY little to do with education.

Discovery Channel is turning into MTV in the respect that they no longer care to show what made them great. MTV used to show music videos and now they have given up on that for shows that will draw a bigger audience. Discovery Channel used to show educational programming and now they have given education up for entertainment.

Why did they sell their souls? Am I the only one this bothers?

4. Okay, Food Network is benign, but it's not good.
Are you watching Iron Chef? It's on right now.

5. Myth Busters is a great show
and I love American Chopper. I don't watch the shows to become a better person, but to be entertained, and those two shows entertain me immensely.

6. Well, Discovery Science is OK..
when they're not playing those GODDAMN commercials that ENDLESSLY repeat..."The Science Channel... yeah, that's right... the SCIENCE channel! We changed our name from Discovery Science to.... the Science Channel! Yeah, you heard me!" JESUS CHRIST ON A POGO STICK! You changed to the Science Channel over TWO YEARS AGO!!! WE FUCKING GET IT!!!! ... :takes a deep breath:

Anyhow, it's usually pretty good. Space, prehistoric life, etc. Love it. :)

7. I dunno, I really like Monster House.
But I can understand your pain.

TNT shows Law & Order... I love that show. Man I could watch that show all damned week long.

Spike shows Star Trek, even though they're a pretty conservative network from what I gather.

History channel, they actually put on stuff about D-Day during the anniversary instead of stupid praise Reagan BS.

9. everything has been moved
into the topic specific channels.

just like mtv stopped showing videos on the parent channel and moved them to mtv2.

i think almost even more disappointing than discovery is animal planet! just pet shows and crocodile hunter all day long, so sad.

11. not really (at least not here)
The documentaries are simply not up to the standard of the other local docu-channels. And they send the same ones over and over again.

12. I like American Chopper, but I agree with you about the rest.
I can't fucking STAND home decorating shows. That shit show Trading Spaces started that whole crappy trend.

13. Exactly.
I was just saying this the other day. TLC sucks, too. They used to have the best documentaries and such, but now it's all covert decorating shows. They get a few high rated shows and they model the rest of their programming off of those few shows. It sucks.

15. I didn't realize the Cartoon Network had been sold...
...I was jonesing for some Looney Toons not long ago and all I could find on the Cartoon Network were shows I didn't know. Now it makes sense...

16. But I LOVE "Surprise by design" and "Rally round the House"...
OK, so it's only because I lust painfully for Norma and Rebecca, but....They really show too damn much HGTV programming, I'll agree.

17. I was featured in a Discovery Channel show
Unsolved Histories. About the photo evidence of the JFK assasination. By this time next year, if they run it 5 more times, I'll have accumulated my 15 minutes of fame, woohoo!

I don't really watch TV with any regularity, but I gotta admit, I dig chicks who wear tool belts and know how to use them, and the father son team on American Chopper have brought a tear to my eye. Screw education, that's what the internet is for. Feed me tittillating entertainment dammit!
