2. What prompted this?

I had the latest variety of Coke last night, and although it seems to have been borne of the Atkins/South Beach fads, and has a ridiculous & hokey name, it is good!. I also dig Lime Diet Coke.

To answer your question: Lemon Diet Coke is an abomination among beverages and must suffer the fate of Sodom & Gomorrah. "New Formula Coke" -- besides Pepsi-Cola, that was the biggest joke in beverage history.

I love lime in my tortilla corn chips, and it's rather good in Coke...

But we all know they're going to add in more fruits, vegetables, and hopefully not other things to expand their consumer base...

(notice I kept "vanilla" of of the list as I love Vanilla coke... usually the diet variety but my diet is all asperteme and other cancer-causing materials so I expect to become one big tumor in a few years... :shrug: )

6. Coke (and Pepsi for that matter) "lost it" totally decades ago when

they switched from sugar to corn syrup.... (Yes, there really WAS an original coke, but it pre-dated their disastrous attempt to change it in the 80s)...I know our younger DUers have not ever had the original, but there was an incredible difference. But, given the big government subsidies on corn, we'll never see a return... Even "nutrasweet" tastes better in comparison to me. Yuck...

I've been drinking Coke with lime in it for years, as well as Coke with Rose's Lime Cordial in it, and I used to get this *really* good product (alas, sadly discontinued) called President's Choice Key Lime Cola... I'd buy it once to try it, although I probably would prefer real lime.

I don't like the vanilla Coke, but I won't stop anyone else from buying it. If I'm going to have vanilla Coke, I'll put real vanilla in it!

I've only had it once though when I was moving some stuff across Kansas for my sister. I stopped in some BFE small town that had a Sonic, and they listed Chocolate Pepsi on their menu (which is weird because every other Sonic I've been to pushes Coke). I ordered it, and it was really damn good. I've tried mixing chocolate syrup and Pepsi myself, but I never get the portions right it seems. I hope one day they do come out with Chocolate Pepsi.

20. When I was a kid

in the 50s, you could go into a soda fountain and they'd make you up a Coke with any flavor you wanted. I remember drinking a chocolate Coke and thinking it was ok. But then that was made with real Coke syrup with soda water added....a bit different than what they call 'the real thing' today.

Nowadays, I drink diet RC because of blood sugar problems. Diet RC is sweetened with Splenda, not aspertame. My doc says that aspertame will rot your brain-all I know is that it changes my personality drastically. Nasty stuff. Stick to sugar or Splenda, folks.

This used to be a popular flavor, back before Coke was in bottles.

Apparently, the soda jerk (a guy who jerks sodas--this is not a referendum on his demeanor) had at his disposal just hundreds of different flavorings and a container of carbonated water to stir them into, and one of the flavorings was ammonia.

The guy also had a little pot down at the end of the line. In it he would pour the dregs from the flavoring containers when he refilled one. This one was labeled "don't care" or "whatever." In use, when a customer came into the fountain and asked for a soda, he'd be asked what flavor he wanted. If he was stupid enough to say "I don't care," he'd get one out of the Don't Care container.
