2. That's what firewalls are for.
One on the router, one on the PC.

15. Hopefully, you're also using an encrypted network name...
and password for your home network?

3. how do you have it secured?
if you're leaving it open (kudos!), make sure you don't have any passwordless network shares or anything.

Unforunately, unless I spend a lot of time and effort changing my network topology, the wireless needs to be on the green side of the firewall, so I have it restricted to only certain machines.

9. I had NO luck getting my Netgear router
to work. Spent two hours on the phone with Netgear (India). The range was supposed to be 150 ft but my computers less than 50 ft away couldn't find the router.

They told me there were "too many angles" in my house. Useless.

The laptop is giving me problems, but that's because the laptop is a POS.

16. That must have cost a fortune
I was looking at wireless vs. wired and went wired bacuase I could get 100Mbps for 1/4 of the price of an 11Mbps wireless setup. Maybe its just British prices...

17. I paid less than $50 for my Netgear router...
(same speed) plus it came with a PCMCIA card for the laptop. I found the deal on http://www.slickdeals.net. Gotta check it out. They always have information on incredible deals and rebates on just about everything...

(Maybe I shouldn't be posting that... then I won't be able to catch anything.)
