What is your favorite pop song from the 80's?
I'm speaking strictly pop - that means no Iron Maiden, soryy - no truly - I AM SORRY - Iron Maiden rules, however...

Mine is "Wrapped Around Your Finge"r by the Police (which is my favorite band BTW).

What about you?

MJ? Madonna? Laura Branigan?

1. The Reflex by Duran Duran
It's pure pop confection.

I couldn't get enough of it for like 3 years. I'm a total Corky Romano, I know...

5. 90125...
Is one of the touchstone albums of the 80's for pruduction quality. Can rock a Hi-Fi system to the very tube foundations.

9. Sorry, I simply CAN'T name just one song
Edited on Sun Jun-20-04 12:54 AM by progrocker69
I would have to say that about 90% of everything that hit the top 40 from 1981 until 1985 would be a contender, depending on my mood. Here's a few standouts though:

Diesel - Sausolito Summer Night

Chilliwack - My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)

Human League - Don't You Want Me

Asia - Heat of the Moment

Men Without Hats - Safety Dance

Missing Persons - Words

INXS - The One Thing

Billy Joel - Pressure

'Til Tuesday - Voices Carry

Crosby, Stills & Nash - Southern Cross

Alan Parsons Project - Eye in the Sky

Steve Miller Band - Abracadabra

On edit: Every other song or artist already mentioned in this thread is great too.

16. I can't stand 80's pop
I think as a category it is the worst music of modern times. Growing up in the 80's there weren't very many radio stations in my town and I actually thought I didn't like music because it was all bad. I feel sorry for anyone who came of age during a time of such artificial, processed music. I'm getting annoyed just thinking about it.

The only 80's music I like was considered alternative or non-mainstream at the time.

18. Sorry
I know what you're saying but I could still enjoy this stuff when I was young enough to not understand the stuff you're talking about.

Were you born so serious?

20. Yes
my Mother says I came out of the womb speaking in complete sentences and asked the Doctor to please not slap me like that again.

I like my share if silly non-serious music, but not 80's pop.

25. Hard to pick
but it probably comes down to a tie between Save a Prayer by Duran Duran and No One is to Blame by Howard Jones.

P.S. Duran Duran is good for torturing 15-year-old boys in the car.

27. There was good pop from the 80s?
Just kidding.

All the good 80s pop seems to be from 1980 and 1981. IMHO. It got too phony, synthetic, and processed after that. God its painful to remember some of that stuff.

My vote (three way tie): Seven Bridges Road by the Eagles, Steal Away by Robbie Dupree, and Ain't Even Done With The Night by John Cougar Mellencamp.
