5. Let's see...
I played Demon Attack a good deal. Zaxon, Chopper Command, Raiders of the Lost Ark, PacMan(of course)

You do mean "the 80s" instead of the "90s", right?

7. Shit, I cant remember what its called...
River Raider? You got to "fly" a blob over a "river" and blow up stuff.

I also had an Atari 400, where you get to type 6000 lines of basic to play a text adventure. Cassette tape storage drive extra.

8. PacMan
Yeah, the Atari 2600 graphics were weak compared to the arcade version, but all the money in quarters made it possibly to buy 5 or 6 new joysticks (because I kept wearing them out on that fucking game)

In an Atari sidebar - Did anybody ever actually finish the Raiders of the Lost Ark game?

10. Yeah, I finished Raiders
I remember thinking back then that the graphics were kick ass. Ooh, how realistic...a block wearing a hat.

It was a long time ago, but I think I remember some. Getting the timing down in the map room with the sun and the staff was a pain in the ass. It seemed like it took forever to get it right. There was no pause button back then, remember?

You had to get the shovel from the black market to dig up the Ark.

The ending was the same as the beginning except in reverse.

14. I could never get past the "hole in the side of the cliff" thing.
Probably because the joystick was usually ruined from my hours long sessions with Pac-man and/or Asteroids. I've still got my 2600 with those cartridges somewhere. So one of these days I'm gonna hook that thing up and finish that damned game.

9. Dude, it was all about "Pitfall", aka "Pitfall Harry's Jungle Adventure"!
But we had a Bally Astrocade, which was superior to the Atari, but very poorly marketed and distributed.

12. hmm, let's see, never owned the new 2600
had the version just before that, 1500 i think. yar's revenge, asteroids, defender, air sea battle, tank battle, missile command, winter olympics? (had a whole bunch of pong derivatives), ...

i'd have to say trick shot (pool game). but if i owned centipede or tempest it'd have been them.

by the way, kool-aid man wasn't very fun. neither was E.T.

15. Best game? Overall, it was Adventure...
... oh the things we did with that game. Pretty much had it down to the pixel, gray dot and all.

A buddy of mine figured out how to capture the bat before it picked up any items, and stash him in a holding pattern 'naked'. We'd do that and set up puzzles for each other, using the dot, the naked bat and ell the other weird tricks you can do with the bridge, magnet and dragons.

Good god, what nerds.

As far as 'arcade-style' gameplay, Missle Command was the best adaptation I can remember. The most addicitive and fury-inducing shooter was Megamania. River Raid was also decent, and I never actually finished Pitfall, but had fun with that one. (Mostly Activision... hmmm....)

But the best part of all this discussion is that it can be decided right now! All this stuff lives on in emulation. There's a 'PC Atari Emulator' out there (http://www.classicgaming.com/pcae), as well as all the cartridges.

Tiny download too.. well worth killing an afternoon or two wallowing in nostalgia. Some of the games are still boderline playable! :bounce:

21. Yeah, my son made that game jump through hoops
He was around 6 years old at the time, but he used to ram ladders through walls to get into different areas of the mazes, he managed to capture the bat and get taken for a ride through all the mazes - he was a litle genius with it.

I always told him he should go into computer gaming and trouble-shoot for the game companies. He ended up going into the Marines - go figure!

20. ET was truly terrible
A game with awful graphics and no real point.

Kinda like "Adventure".

The 2600 version of "Pac Man" was funny for being so bad.

I liked "Star Raiders" on the Atari 800 computer.

17. Yar's Revenge and Adventure were the best! Gene knows that too...
Yar's is still fun to play today.

Looking at the title character and the font, it looks like Gene Roddenberry rather liked it too. :-)

24. Mine is probably...
Seaquest... from Activision...

Although I have a ton of favorites..

Yars, Space Invaders, Berzerk, Pitfall, Enduro Racer...

Realsports Baseball and Football ruled but you needed two players... Ice Hockey was awesome...

I still play the old school Atari all the time..

Oh and you guys are right that hole in the cliff on Raiders of the Lost Ark is frickin' insane!

I liked Donkey Kong and Pac-Man too but the Coleco version of DK was far superior and neither were anything close to the arcade versions...
