I'm a Canadian...and I vote!
Just a bit of a smugness post...I voted today, and it's good to flex the ol' democracy muscle every few years!

1. I like the week-end voting. I am from the USA and I always vote.
Did you put a mark on a paper?

2. It must be nice living in
a country that values a vote enough to count it. No hanging chad, no votes lost or changed in digital hell. Congratulations, CanuckAmok

3. Yep, it's the plain old marked piece of paper placed in a cardboard box...
When I was a kid I was envious of those cool lever machines you guys use in the US, but now I think it's kinda cool to particiate in a system which dasn't changed significantly in a couple of hundred years...

John Kerry is sexier than Paul Martin, Stephen Harper, and Jack Layton combined!

8. advance poll on Saturday ...
In the basement of the local library branch. Three Elections Canada volunteers -- a retired guy (deputy returning officer), his wife with the stack of ballots, and a high school student with the voter's list. They said the turnout was pretty high so far (especially for a summer election).

There was a cardboard privacy screen, a wooden pencil, and a cardboard ballot box to put the paper ballot into when you were done.

Perhaps this was all symbolic -- a reminder that as long as we have forest products (and senior citizen volunteers), our democracy will be strong?
