Age has been very kind to Bill Clinton...
I think he is much more handsome now than during his presidency.

1. I absolutely agree!

He's a FINE-looking man! His eyes are so kind and warm, with just a hint of mischief to them.

:D

2. I just posted on another thread that I saw a clip of Kerry, Clinton and
Carter all standing next to each other from an event awhile back. Oh, my heart skipped a beat looking at three statuesque, intelligent, and confident men. It was a welcome sight Compare that to the swaggering, smirking, dumbass we have today.

4. Comparison shopping...
Nixon: Criminal of the first order.
Ford: Pardon me? Accomplice of Nixon.
Carter: Annapolis grad, nuclear engineer.
Reagan: Blithering drool machine, style over substance.
Bush I: Tool of the Saudis, more money than brains.
Clinton: Rhodes scholar, law professor, Best Of The Best.
Bush II: Cheerleader, failed businessman, war criminal, coke addict, pretzel-choker.
Kerry: War hero, principled protestor, dedicated public servant.

No comparison. We've got it ALL.

5. There was a thread a couple days ago that asked what former Presidents
were doing with their time since leaving office. Reagan of course gets a "free pass" since he was battling a terrible disease, however, if Nancy Reagan is true to form, she will soon be out fighting for stem cell research.

Ford-nothing
Bush I- nothing useful (Carylye group, tandem jumping out of airplanes? Whoop-de-doo)
Clinton-The Clinton Foundation which seeks to help those with Aid's in African and assist struggling economy's world wide.
Carter-Habitat for Humanity and traveling globally to oversee elections.
I don't know about Nixon but as I recall, he didn't do shit after he left office in shame.

Democrats have this deep desire to help, even when they are out of the public eye. It *is* personal and political.

7. How about this....
Ford: Piling up money through dubious associations with the likes of Charles Keating.

Poopy--I mean Poppy: Piling up money through dubious associations with the likes of the Carlyle Group.

Reagan (free pass, hell): Piling up money from inflated speaker's fees. He got $2.5 mil for two speeches he gave in Japan within a few weeks of leaving the White House.

Nixon: Least vile of the lot, believe it or not. Made a few bucks from his self-exculpatory autobiography but spent most of his time in embittered isolation.

Eff them all...

10. I know, free pass, hell
But it is hard for me to totally criticize the man for his post Presidential involvement in the world. Give the guy a break, he was pooping himself, doing puzzles for 3 year olds and couldn't recognize his family. He really wasn't given the option to get involved or not. Given the option, chances are he would have done what Ford and Poopy are doing but since he wasn't given the option due to a terrible illness, I am going to let him off the hook.

13. Then how about taking his life as a whole,
and agreeing that he was a misogynistic, racist, second-rate, dimwit, asshole, motherfucker, whose entire philosophy was "I've got mine, now go get yours!"

Look, I understand that a lot of people aren't willing to give Reagan a pass just because of his recent demise, but are willing to give him a pass because he had a terrible disease that has touched many innocent lives. Well, his was NOT one of the innocent lives! There is NOTHING about the man that was innocent! He was a chickenhawk, warmongering, posturing fucker who deserved MUCH worse than what he got. I wish hee could have lived to 100, so he could keep shitting on himself like he shit on America for so long. This fucking FBI informant NAMED NAMES for the HUAC, sold out his friends, his "principles," and his country... to say NOTHING of selling arms TO TERRORISTS for hostages and diverting the profits TO TERRORISTS for his own twisted reasons.

I will NEVER forgive Reagan, and I am GLAD he was shitting himself at the end. No pass. I laughed when Nixon died, I laughed when Reagan died, and I will laugh when the Bushes die. They weren't fit to live.

15. The entire point of my post was POST Presidency.
I don't give him a pass WHILE he was President. I hated Reagan and his policies.

I don't think I will go to your level and laugh at their deaths but again, the whole point of my post was POST Presidency, not what he did while he was in the WH.

17. OK. That's valid.
In that case, I like that picture of Reagan (post-presidency) with half his head shaved. It was quite apropos.

8. Don't forget Carter's Nobel Peace Prize
ignored or denigrated by American media.

9. I am ambivalent about his Peace Prize.
I mean, I am glad they gave it to him, but Kissinger got one, too. And Arafat. So what's the big deal?

12. sometimes they give it for a specific, possibly dubious, achievement
Kissinger and Arafat are good examples of that type of shortsightedness. As is Begin and many others.

In Carter's case he was awarded the prize for decades of humanitarian service. Some, usually right wingers, will denigrate it by saying that it was a slap at Bush. Nevertheless his work did merit this type of award and I praise him for it.

I'm not all that big a fan of awards myself but I was happy to see that one.

14. I agree about Carter.
But frankly, if they ever offer me one, I'll say "Can I just have Kissinger's?"

You might have to hang a beating on Kissinger to get it though.

I'll hold your coat.

21. I could totally take him.
I'd just point over his shoulder and say "Look! Groupies!" As soon as he turns his head, I sucker-punch him and take his glasses.

11. Absolutely!
That is one man who deserves a wonderful legacy. He had a dirty trick played on him by the Reagan people and I hope that is recognized in his legacy. He is such a good man.
