I just came home from an anime convention, ask me anything!
Edited on Sun Jun-20-04 08:47 PM by Chovexani
My friends and I went to Anime NEXT in NJ this weekend and had a blast. Yesterday we cosplayed Integral and Alucard from Hellsing, and today we went as Utena and Anthy from Utena. There's just something amazing about dressing in funny costumes and hanging out with 2000 other nerds...

I ate WAY too much Pocky though. :)

On Edit: D'oh I forgot the best part: I saw someone with a Kerry button! And there were loads and loads of anti-Bush bumper stickers in the parking lot. Looks like Kerry has a firm grip on the otaku vote. ;)

1. How many attendees were over 30 and still living with their parents?

2. Was Piro from Megatokyo there?
He does a lot of conventions, but didn't mention going to this one.

6. Unfortunately not.
The guests at this one were kinda...well, I don' t want to say lame cause that would be rude, but...ok they were lame. :P It was a great con overall though.

8. Hrm I got nothin.
Dunno on either one of those questions...those are two series I'm not really into and the industry panels were kinda packed all weekend so we skipped em. It's weird, I love Rumiko Takahashi's other stuff (especially Urusei Yatsura and Ranma) but I just can't get into Inuyasha. It seems to be pretty popular though, they ran a marathon all day today and there were tons of cosplayers (some of which even managed to be good ).

11. Nada.
The show is over in Japan and Knockin' on Heaven's Door was the only movie. So that's it. :( Which is a shame, cause I really like that show.

There were a couple of hilarious Bebop-related music videos in the AMV contest. One was a vid about Eine done to George Clinton's "Atomic Dog", and it was great. I love Eine and the poor mutt doesn't get enough attention in fandom, hehe. The other one was actually a super hilarious Evangelion thing, where they re-did the opening of the TV series but in Bebop style with "Tank!" That got a lot of laughs from fans of both shows.

9. Was anyone dressed as Kenshin?
Or how about Chi from Chobits? Her sexy, little girl style kinda creeps me out though.

13. Kenshin was a very popular cosplay thing.
Edited on Sun Jun-20-04 08:45 PM by Chovexani
I saw a bunch of Kenshins, an Aoshi, a Yahiko, and a Sano. It seemed to be a pretty popular thing, probably 4th or so in popularity behind Final Fantasy (I'm a HUGE FF fan but Yuna's songstress outfit from FFX-2 is officially the most played out cosplay thing this summer, and 99% of them looked like shit), Inuyasha, and Naruto.

Chobits was kinda popular too, I saw a few Chiis and a really nice Freya. Someone in the Artists Alley was actually selling Personcon Chii ears and I bought some. I also got a Chii plushie. They were so cute. :)

15. Hee!
Unfortunately not, at least that I saw. Cosplay was kind of strange at this one, as certain series that are really popular got a lot of represenation (FF games, Inuyasha, etc), but other that are also very popular had practically none. For instance, my best friend and I were the only Hellsing cosplayers in the whole place yesterday--I was the only Integral, and there was one other Alucard who looked pretty lame compared to my friend, if I must say so. Practically everyone knew who we were though, and everyone loved us and wanted pics. We heard a lot of "Hellsing, finally!" :P We did run into a guy wearing a really cool version of a Hellsing soldier's uniform, with camo, helmet and stuff, and there was a Victoria in the dealers room. It's extremely rare though to be the only people doing a certain series but everyone knowing who you are. :wtf:

Same thing today when we wore the Utena outfits. We literally couldn't walk two paces without someone wanting pictures. For a nerd girl with low self-esteem it was a pretty cool thing. :) I'll probably post the pics in my sig once I troll the web and find some (or ours get developed, whichever comes first).
