A dear freind gave me Richard Rorty's "Achieving our Country"

I am both awed by it's gracious spacious hope and downed by the things that have happened in our country since it was written. Anyone else moved by the beauty of this small book? Anyone else still actively conscious that this thing called america isn't totally writ in stone, no matter how many saudi military-ish's sneak their uniforms to murderers for religions' sake or horribly selfish elitists inhabit the white house and plunder our national wealth for personal gratification? And anyone else still reading the morning (or evening) news in hope of a major break for peace and hope (and laughter) every single day?

Edit - guess you guys are way ahead of me on reading material - I never read any philosophy. Truthfully, I am more of a humor section book shopper. Though different strokes for me, it's really nice to read something so out-of-bounds uplifting.
