(Today) Par meant about as much as Jessica Simpson's IQ.

1. What a bunch of friggin' whiners, led by Tiger

Woods: "This is not the way it's supposed to be played."

Dude -- golf is, and always has been, at the mercy of weather. That's the way it's "supposed to be played". You sucked, so it's your turn to suck up, stop being a baby, and stop throwing blame where it doesn't belong.

2. I cannot agree more
Hello! Goosen/Mickelson both shot one over. They dealt with it. Allenby shot even par.

It's hard - but Christ, they were playing for $1,125,000 as the prize.

3. I would be pissed too!!!!
If I was playing for $1.125 million, I would be bitching to. I would blame anything and everything. A gust of wind, damn weather. Fast greens, damn drought. Photographer, disrepectful bastard. Hot blonde near the Tee box, damn distractions. :) ...Kevin.

5. Considering Tiger was so far out of the lead
They stopped showing him - so no gratuitous shots of his fiancee.

7. I really enjoyed todays game...
I think, every now and then, a really difficult and unforgiving course makes it interesting.

10. That's why I said I love a guy like Shigeki
Who always seems like he's smiling - his nickname is the "Smiling Assasin".

Unfortunately - he played like crap today & wasn't on the telecast much.

They should all be smiling - I think last place paid at least $5 G's.

12. Not everyone is smiling
Every caddy makes b/w 5 and 10% of their players earnings. About 1/2 of the field goes home with no money. Caddy has to pay for hotel and transport. To the Hamptons. If your player missed the cut, you are out probably out $1G.

14. Speaking from a little experience
MOST caddies are paid for - room, board, & transportation. Plus the % of the winnings.

That's for the guys who have their tour card.

19. Do you know Joe Damiano?
He loops for Stuart Appleby, has for years. I make a point to follow Appleby, at Firestone when I lived in NE Ohio, and at Riviera now. Damiano cracks me up! Got to be the most cynical caddie in history, he's such a smart-ass.

Most caddies are hilarious. The stories they could tell.

Actually, the LPGA stories are just as funny.

21. All caddies are cynical.
I caddied in exactly one PGA event. Back when I still caddied the Western Open would not allow players to have their own caddies and had to use local caddies. It changed about three years after I was in it.

I'm on the NW side...just south of Sauganash.

26. Every Tuesday and Thursday after 5
Edited on Sun Jun-20-04 11:49 PM by AngryAmish
Gave me the yips at age 16.

In August the greens were rocks. Always had to slow the greens down for the Western. Go play Chicago Golf - that place gets worse than Butler ever got. The rough was brutal and I play right to left and the "architect" of Chicago Golf was a slicer. So all the holes (save the par 3s) go left to right. I had to write a check in the parking lot.

27. I played Chicago Golf once
long story - but I did - and I'm a 3 hcp.

Shot a smooth 85 from the tips.

Would have been lucky to break 100 at Shinnecock today.

28. You are a substantially better golfer than I am
When I play I get down to about a 12-14. Playing once a month I am about an 18. (Unless we are playing for money, then I am about a 26.)

29. For money?
Then I'm a 10-12 :)

I've been playing since I was a wee child, thanks to my parents. My handicap has been in the 1 to 5 range since I was about 16. (I'm 34) My company has a golf league, and since I joined last year, I've been playing at least once a week. BEST thing that's happened for my game, not to mention my mental frame of mind. Something to look forward to every Tuesday.

For 4 years we had a Sunday morning tee time. Got really good. Still a..cough ...cough..25. There is nothing like a weekly game for non-trivial amounts of money to sharpen one's game.

15. It was a tough f*cking course...............
I loved it. It was so much fun seeing those pros as befuddled as some of us weekend hackers out here.

It sucks that the fans had to tarnish it by being bad sports. Yeah, it would have been nice if Breasty... I mean Lefty had won it, or even Corey Pavin. But they didn't, and acting like shit heads towards the guy who did win isn't gonna change that. Its just stupid. I'm sure Retief now knows how Monty felt a few years ago.

17. Was the crowd that nasty towards Retief?
I didn't sense that on TV. Playing partner Big Ern' was obviously out of it - and Phil & Fred were the crowd faves.

Retief is a good guy (as far as I can tell) and certainly deserved the win - and a ton of respect.
