I'm losin' the juice to my ol' relic computer.....

......I'm usin' a Compaq Presario laptop that's almost 10 years old...the only problem I've ever had since it was given to me is the AC port...it's loose and won't stay plugged in. The battery has never recharged either so that option is out...even if I could get a new battery..which I can't...I can't count on this power port to recharge it. After messin' with it all mornin'...I finally got it to stay in and work for now...got it taped up with electrical tape and it's juiced but one wrong move and it's liable to quit again....so not only am I immobile but scared shitless to even type or adjust my screen in case it dies once again. x(

Sooooo...just thought I'd rant about this as I'm distraught that my portal to the world...and my cherished online friends may be stripped away from me at any second....will ya'll...."....love me when I'm gone?...ooooh ooooh oooooh!" :cry:

I have an old laptop, too. I just got it operational, although it won't connect to the internet because I can't install the software to run the wireless network card. :nopity: At least I have a functional desktop.

The display on it it very dim, and lately has been going blank until I apply periodic rapid bursts of light pressure to the back of the screen. But I have it on a wireless card and it works great for surfing the net.

4. Wow... brings back memories...

I remember cruising around in my '77 Buick Regal listening to cassettes on a ghetto blaster in the passenger floorboard. It was powered by one of those 'cigarette lighter' power supplies that had a tenuous connection to both the boom box and the cigarette lighter. Never failed to fail... it was the easiest thing to do.

5. If that's a typical male/female connection,

usually all you have to do is GENTLY spread the pins on the male connection. More friction is all you need.

6. You might try this

Get some of that stuff that you knead and knead, until it's fluid. I can't remember it's name, but I'm an artist and I use it when drawing in pastel and charcoal. It's not like a kneaded eraser, it's softer. Put some of this in the portal, then stick in your plug. This should hold it tighter. Even if it doesn't work, it can be removed pretty easily and you will have lost nothing except a few bucks. Can get this at Michael's or an art store. It is also used to stick light things to a wall without a nail and to clean up a drawing that might have smudges on it. Sorry I can't remember the name. Purpose of my proposed fix is to make a tighter fit for your plug-in.

On edit: Please be sure it's not on the tip or you could force some of this product into the wrong place. I don't think you have much to lose.
