Has anyone mentioned that today (6/21) is Ray Davies' 60th birthday?
If not, I thought I would.

Girl, I want to be with you all of the time
All day and all of the night!
All day and all of the night!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RAY! :toast::party::yourock::bounce:

A Well Respected Man
Written by: R. Davies
Published by: Kassner Music Co. Ltd

'Cause he gets up in the morning,
And he goes to work at nine,
And he comes back home at five-thirty,
Gets the same train every time.
'Cause his world is built 'round punctuality,
It never fails.

And he's oh, so good,
And he's oh, so fine,
And he's oh, so healthy,
In his body and his mind.
He's a well respected man about town,
Doing the best things so conservatively.

And his mother goes to meetings,
While his father pulls the maid,
And she stirs the tea with councilors,
While discussing foreign trade,
And she passes looks, as well as bills
At every suave young man

'Cause he's oh, so good,
And he's oh, so fine,
And he's oh, so healthy,
In his body and his mind.
He's a well respected man about town,
Doing the best things so conservatively.

And he likes his own backyard,
And he likes his fags the best,
'Cause he's better than the rest,
And his own sweat smells the best,
And he hopes to grab his father's loot,
When Pater passes on.

'Cause he's oh, so good,
And he's oh, so fine,
And he's oh, so healthy,
In his body and his mind.
He's a well respected man about town,
Doing the best things so conservatively.

And he plays at stocks and shares,
And he goes to the Regatta,
And he adores the girl next door,
'Cause he's dying to get at her,
But his mother knows the best about
The matrimonial stakes.

'Cause he's oh, so good,
And he's oh, so fine,
And he's oh, so healthy,
In his body and his mind.
He's a well respected man about town,
Doing the best things so conservatively.

Ray Davies Shot In New Orleans Robbery

Edited By Michael Bennett

NEW ORLEANS, LA, USA - Singer-songwriter RAY DAVIES of the celebrated British rock band The Kinks was shot in the leg while chasing thieves who snatched a purse from a woman he was with, police said Monday.

He was not seriously injured.

Police said Davies, 59, and the woman were walking near the edge of the French Quarter at 8:30 p.m. Sunday when a passing car stopped and a gunman jumped out and demanded the purse.

The woman handed it to him, and the thief ran back to the car.

When Davies ran after him, the thief shot Davies in the leg, said Capt. Marlon Defillo, a police spokesman.

The woman was not hurt.

Davies was treated and released at a hospital, Defillo said.

Police said Davies got the license number of the car, which officers were able to trace.

They arrested Jerome Barra, 25, as he drove up to a house hours after the shooting.

Barra was booked on charges of armed robbery and aggravated battery. Another suspect was being sought.

Deke Arlon, Davies' manager in London, said: "He should be up and about in a day or so."

4. Well we drank champagne and danced all night

I met her in a club down in old soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes
just like cherry-cola C-o-l-a cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said lola
L-o-l-a lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Well I’m not the world’s most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Well I’m not dumb but I can’t understand
Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man
Oh my lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

Well we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said dear boy won’t you come home with me
Well I’m not the world’s most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

I pushed her away
I walked to the door
I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
Then I looked at her and she at me

Well that’s the way that I want it to stay
And I always want it to be that way for my lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It’s a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola

Well I left home just a week before
And I’d never ever kissed a woman before
But lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said dear boy I’m gonna make you a man

Well I’m not the world’s most masculine man
But I know what I am and I’m glad I’m a man
And so is lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

Long ago life was clean
Sex was bad and obscene
And the rich were so mean
Stately homes for the lords
Croquet lawns, village greens
Victoria was my queen
Victoria, victoria, victoria, ’toria

I was born, lucky me
In a land that I love
Though I am poor, I am free
When I grow I shall fight
For this land I shall die
Let her sun never set
Victoria, victoria, victoria, ’toria
Victoria, victoria, victoria, toria

Land of hope and gloria
Land of my victoria
Land of hope and gloria
Land of my victoria
Victoria, ’toria
Victoria, victoria, victoria, ’toria

Canada to india
Australia to cornwall
Singapore to hong kong
From the west to the east
From the rich to the poor
Victoria loved them all
Victoria, victoria, victoria, ’toria
Victoria, victoria, victoria

and I love Ray too

In 1976 we found a space for all South Africans to come together and talk to each other, think together and create together. We called it the Market Theatre. In 1990 the late Barney Simon and I founded the Market Theatre Laboratory which provided us with a space and the opportunity not only to explore our inner selves but also to reflect it through our work without the pressure of outcome. In 1994 we discovered that we had an identical twin, the National Theatre Studio. A collaboration of work began with an exchange of skills, and an engaging of intellect. A creative umbilical cord between North and South linked the Market Theatre Laboratory and the National Theatre Studio, and the artists of the world benefited.

Actor, Executive Trustee of the Market Theatre, and
Founder Director of the Market Theatre Laboratory

15. Don’t forget to dance, no, no, no
You look out of your window,
Into the night.
Could be rain, could be snow,
But it can’t feel as cold as you’re feeling inside.

And all of you friends are either married, vanished,
Or just left alone.
But that’s no reason to just stop living.
That’s no excuse to just give in to a sad and lonely heart.

Don’t forget to dance, no, no, no,
Don’t forget to smile.
Don’t forget to dance, no, no, no,
Forget it for a while.

’cause darling, darling,
I bet you danced a good one in your time.
And if this were a party
I’d really make sure the next one would be mine.
Yes, you with the broken heart.

Don’t forget to dance, no, no, no,
Don’t forget to smile.
Don’t forget to dance, no, no, no,
Forget it for a while.

Don’t forget to dance, no, no, no,
Forget it for a while.

You walk down the street
And all the young punks whistle at you.
A nice bit of old,
Just goes to show what you can achieve
With the right attitude.
As you pass them by
They whisper their remarks one to another,
And you give them the eye
Even that you know that you could be their mother.
You do the thing you love the most.
What separates you from the rest,
And what you love to do the most?
And when they ask me how you dance,
I say that you dance real close.

Don’t forget to dance, no, no, no,
Don’t forget to dance.

I love this line: "And you give them the eye
Even that you know that you could be their mother."

;)
