Avril Lavigne ......Why?
I'm watching her right now on the Tonight Show. All i can say is...why? What is the appeal? This candy coated, teen angst, pop rock, has been done to death...and done better!

1. Because most people...
are mindless idiots with no taste or discernment.

Oh, and she's good-looking. (In a bland, processed, sort-of generic-pop-star way.)

2. some record exec decided another teen angst candy coated etc.
angry young 'chick' singer would sell.
just like they decided what should be done with alanis morrisette, who was a budding pop star who said her favorite singer was Tiffany before she became the brooding purveyor of young female anger at being hurt by insensitive men.....it will never end....

Avril has on dark eyeliner. What a rebel.

The same people that listened to this crap are the same people that listened to Limp Bizkit and tha same people that listened to Color me Badd and loved Kriss Kross...fucking MORANS.(sic)

4. Isn't it obvious?
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 11:46 PM by LiberalVoice
Because she is a rebel!!! Because she doesn't like her parents and all those "trendy" kids. She isn't in it for the money or to be famous! She is all about the music!

Well, at leasts that what the dumbass sheep are made to believe.

Avril = :puke:

6. Great power pop, pretty ballads, and very honest lyrics
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 11:49 PM by mvd
I'll never agree with you. Say what you want, but it won't affect me in the least. Avril rocks!

P.S. some of the indie artists get the sheep IMO :P

13. And expanding..
IMO her ballads aren't bombastic like Celine Dion's - they avoid the sacchrine quality. I listen to her songs and don't find them candy-coated at all. There is a lot of craft as far as which instruments go where.

I am a loyal fan and will remain that way in the face of bashing. I don't automatically dismiss pop/rock artists. I talked with a reviewer who said that Avril seems to actually have more male fans. And I'm 28.

Ok, with that I'll leave this thread. No use in continuing. Have given my 2 cents. :-)

In the past, he's begged me for a Britney poster. Thankfully, my almost 3 year old son still just likes choo-choo trains. :D

Very, I might add.
But so is Natalie Imbruglia and where is she now?
Talent will be the final arbiter.

I like "Anything But Ordinary". I don't know why it didn't get radio airplay or gain any popularity.

20. Because she is cute as hell, tough and talented?
And she can write good songs, play the guitar and sing live. Quite a contrast to lip-synching, dancing fakers, eh?

It takes a lot of guts to do what she does. And she is good at it. Maybe you have outgrown teenage pop. Maybe you don't like women.

But don't take it out on her.

31. 'Maybe you don't like women?' Bwaa-haa-haa-haa!
She's no PJ Harvey, she's no Aimee Mann, she's no Patti Smith, she isn't even Liz Phair. She's Hilary Duff in Doc Marten boots.

23. I'll give her credit that
she works on her own songs, and has a strong voice, but her image is purely manufactured by her record label. She is marketed as the "Anti Britney" for a reason. A true rebel wouldn't give a shit about her make up or doing photo shoots for glamor magazines.

25. Sorry, she is just bad--songwriting isn't worth shit without talent
And if all one has to do is write songs and be able to play them on stage, our standards have sunk pretty damn low. :(
