Homeowners group goes to court over plastic birds on man's mailbox
<snip>

WEST PALM BEACH — Call it the flapping-bird flap: A homeowners association and a resident fighting in court over two 6-inch plastic birds with rotating wings perched on the resident's mailbox.

Resident Steven Grossberg, 55, said the plastic birds keep the real birds from perching there and, ahem, soiling his mailbox.

There you have Oakdale Townhomes Association II vs. Grossberg.

Oakdale Townhomes in suburban Boynton Beach asked Grossberg to remove the birds, citing association rules that require everyone to have the same mailbox.

On Monday, almost three years after Grossberg put up the birds, the flap finally landed in the lap of senior County Judge Bernard Jaffe.

1. This is why I am happy there is no HOA where I live.
Some of those groups are WAY too concerned about trivial matters.

5. Ours does better stuff, like fighting tax increases and having picnics.
They have neighborhood picnics (with raffles), very involved with the local cops, and they're starting up book clubs and that sort of thing. They're also trying to rein in the local school board, who wants to increase property taxes AGAIN, while claiming it's all for the children. More like for the six new admins they hired to replace two, while cutting textbooks, transportation, etc.

By the way, I'm a teacher, so I'm all for public school funding, but these folks are just incompetent.

6. I had a homeowners association when I had my house in Cedar Park.
They said I couldn't keep my bass boat in my driveway. It was against the rules. I did it anyway. This asshole president of the homeowners association rings my doorbell one night. He tells me I HAVE to remove my boat. I told him I'm not going to do that, this is my house, fuck you if you don't like it. This guy was a freeper dumb ass that worked at safety brake for low wages. It was obvious that being the president of the homeowner association was the biggest thing he had ever done in his life. He told me one time I should take down my Dukakis - Bentsen sign. I laughed and said make me fuckface. He turned all red and squealed his wheels leaving. I almost pissed my pants I was laughing so hard. Every time I would drive by his house and he was out front I would yell Hey my boat is in the driveway and my sign stays up. Got that bucko ? He hated me.

9. Oh Lord.
Precisely why I will never live somewhere where a group like that can tell me what I can and can't keep on my lawn, LOL. Seriously, the groups that arrange community stuff, things like that, COOL. Places that tell you that you'll lose your house over a mailbox? Seriously UNcool.

10. This makes me glad I live in the country
No HOA out here, no way.

The guy across from me keeps his boat and camper in his drive way. I've got barn out back that I think only a bulldozer could do justice.

But my yard looks good and I keep my streetfront well maintained.

Oh, my mailbox? It's beaten up and rusty. But that's because we have people around here who like to make sport of taking baseball bats to mail boxes. It's not worth it yet to get a new mailbox.
