Who outscored * on the SAT or ACT tests? his scores inside
Edited on Tue Jun-22-04 07:15 PM by ldsjocktx
According to a CNN.com article on affirmative action, *'s SAT scores were Verbal 566, Math 640, for a total of 1206. For those that took the ACT, according to the University of Californa-Berkeley, an ACT of 26 corresponds to a SAT of 1180, a 27 to 1220, with *'s total of 1206.

Raise your hand if you outscored *. I had a 31 on ACT years ago.

Raise your other hand if you can't believe he that, especially 566 on the verbal section.

edit.. forgot to post the link

4. Bush was rejected by St. John's School
My kids attend St. John's school here in Houston. St. John's is very very strong academically. My son's class had 78% of the class qualify as national merit semi-finalist or commended students.

Bush applied to St. John's for high school and was rejected. At a college counseling event for all of the parents of my son's class, the dean of admissions for Yale was asked if she had heard about Bush's expierence at St. John's. Evidently, the St. John's admissions group had told her the story over dinner. The Dean of admissions for Yale then told the group that legacies (i.e. Bush) play a far smaller role in admissions at Yale now days.

My son and I took this to be a subtle slam at Bush.

I don't, for a microsecond, believe that this dunce scored a 1200 on the SAT. Not for a NANOSECOND, do i believe it.

He would have been most hard pressed to hit 4 digits.

1200 is nothing to sneeze at. I don't remember my exact score, but I think it was around 1220. I was a National Merit Scholar with that score, and I really can't believe Bushboy has enough smarts to make that score.

edited to add:
I took it in 1985. Someone mentioned below that scoring has changed over the years, so I am not sure if that matters.

17. I beat the Shrub
I scored a 1240, though I wish I had taken it more than once to possibly increase my score. I never took the ACT, so have no basis for comparison there. I'm actually surprised he scored as highly as he did; he comes across much dumber than a score like that would indicate.

30. I scored higher, but I don't put so much stock in this test.
Edited on Tue Jun-22-04 09:49 PM by Art_from_Ark
First of all, it only measures math and (written) verbal skills, and ignores other equally relevant subjects (Really, how many people are going to take more than one advanced math course in college?).

It is multiple choice, which means that a good guesser has a good chance of getting a respectable score.

When I took it, the answer circles had to be filled in precisely with the proper shade of dark pencil. If one wasn't good at filling in the circles, there was a chance that correct answers might have been counted as incorrect.

Sometimes, the optical scanners can be messed up. I remember going to a math contest at a local university and getting a 2 out of 40! Other students in my advanced math class got similarly low scores, so we knew something was amiss. After much persistance, were finally persuaded the university to recheck the scores, and, sure enough, most of us had actually scored in the high 20s or low 30s. There's no way to check to see if your SAT answer sheet was graded accurately, and no way to contest the results.

Then there's the problem of nitpicking questions in the verbal section. For example, which is correct-- "We'll meet at around 12:00", or "We'll meet at about 12:00"?

Finally, one's emotional and/or physical state during the test can affect the scores. For example, the test site was far from my home, and I didn't have a car. I had to rely on someone for a ride, and they were late. Then we were stuck in traffic. We barely made it, and by that time, my stomach was acting up. The last 15 minutes or so of the test were quite unbearable.

38. me too- back in 1978. 99th percentile across the board-
my math section was perfect, and my low score was in the grammar section- a 29. but it was still high enough to get me out of the rhetoric requirement at U ofI(llinois).

I never took the SAT's, but my PSAT score made me a National Merit Scholar.

...and that was in 1963. He only took the test once, there was no PSAT, and there was no such thing as a class that would help you score well.

I still scored better than Dumbyass with 690 Verbal and 680 Math in 1975. I took a PSAT, but never took test score-enhancing classes.
