Do you ever get lonely on DU?
You interact with people, but you really don't know them, at least not most of them...

2. Hi Rumguy! I'm Rick!
My picture's in the gallery. It was taken on a beach in Florida when I was reuniting with an estranged daughter and meeting my grandkids for the first time. Yup...I'm the kinda guy who'd wear suspenders on a beach. I did take my shoes and socks off, though.
I'm a native Rhode Islander and I live in Texas where I repair the printing press at a daily newspaper for a living. I have a wife who sleeps in the room down the hall, and a 10 year-old daughter who's the apple of my eye.
Thirty years ago I had a ponytail. Now I don't have enough hair to make a part. I could probably make a ponytail with my eyebrows though, because for some damn reason when the hair on top of my head stopped growing, my eyebrows just sprouted like weeds.
Oh yeah...I was in the Navy for six years somewhere between the ponytail and the eyebrows. If there's anything else you want to know, just ask. I'm here for ya, buddy! :toast:
I'll bet that didn't help one little bit, did it?

3. Nah.
I only know one person from here in real life, and I don't come here that often.

5. That's why I go to a lot of the Chicago gatherings
I've even organized a few! ;-) That way, I get to meet many of the people behind the screen names. I've even become good friends with a couple.

Go to any local gatherings that get organized. Trust me, you'll have fun. Or organize one yourself. We Chicagoans usually meet up in bars (we're just like that), but you could do a bbq or picnic, something like that. You'd definitely feel less lonely around here after meeting people face to face. :-)

8. I don't feel lonely...
...I've got some great "real-life" friends for that, but the people on here at DU are interesting people, most of whom I would easily be friends with if I knew them personally.

It's like I come here, cuz where I live, my closest friends are republicans, though one of them is a smart kid. But when I trie to talk to someone in here, nothing.

11. No
But I do get tongue-tied, apparently. I've been lurking for the last 45 minutes or so and couldn't find anything to say, despite barely posting at all in recent weeks.

Maybe this will break the floodgates open, though.
