AH I'm Paranoid now!
Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 12:50 AM by HEyHEY
I was just on a Canadian Journalism site. Another paper in my chain is hiring. Today I got a call from that paper asking for an article on something. The subject seemed kinda unimportant to their area.

With this latest bit about my paper, I'm wondering if they don't think I have enough experience as an editor and want to transfer me. I doubt they would fire me because I'm a decent news writer and photographer. Their style is to move you.

I mean a job in this area is WAY better than where I am now. The circ is about 10 times as much and the town RULES. But the shame of being releived for not performing my task would be a bit too much.

I think the Gin and Tonic is kicking in.

EDIT: Considering the paper has sold more and I get alot of compliments about how much better the paper is since I took over I think I've performed my task.

2. Have you considered anti-psychotics?
Just kidding. It sounds like you've done a good job since coming on at the place you work at now. They don't have any reason to be looking for somebody to replace you.

9. Sent the old man this e-mail
Well, I'm kind of worried now. I got an email from head office. It was from the editorial director. They were concerend about an issue I put out. The issue was when I was learning all these new programs and stuff. So, I'll admit, the paper wasn't proofed as well as usual. He said my paper is on the list of papers that will receive a regular review. He also said the reviews were meant to be friendly and constructive. He listed the mistakes in that issue, and he listed the things he likes.
I figure it would be stupid to be bitter and take advantage of his 30 years of experience to make the paper better. (Geri Was really pissed they had the gall to send it)
So, I sent him an email suggesting he critique the paper weekly until it's up to par.
I'm a bit pissed because the circulation has gone up and I've had lots of compliments about how the paper looks since I've taken over. But still there's some shame in it.
But, as Tracy once told me, "whenever I screw up, I remind myself I'm young and new at this."
Now, tonight I saw an add for a job in Penticton for a staff reporter at the Western (our sister paper). I also got a call from them today requesting a story I thought was a bit unimportant to their area.
I think they may want to transfer me there. I wouldn't feel too bitter about it, but as I said failing is hard to take. I doubt I'd get fired because the Editorial director said "You have a knack for photos and a talent for writing and I have no doubt the paper will shine after we overcome these roadblocks"
And it's not Cariboo's style to fire people.
If They said, "We just don't know if you're experienced enough." I'd be okay with that, cause it may be in part true.
Still it would bug me, and still is bugging me. What do you think?

He'll know, he's got a knack for it
