F9-11 song "I'd Love to Change the World"
Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 08:12 AM by underpants
I have loved that song since my brother let me borrow his album. Man, Alvin Lee was a awesome guitar player even if the songs ran more than a bit long for my tastes.

But I never could tell if it was left leaning or right leaning or sort of a Archie Bunker-esque the left making fun of the right type thing.

Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, Monopoly

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

2. I think it's all supposed to be a parody
of people "sitting on the fence" about the social issues of the day. At least that's what I told myself in 10th grade, when it was all over the radio.

3. I just think it is talking about how a lot of people bitch
But nobody does anything about it. It doesn't really seem like a political song in the sense of left or right.
But it is a really cool tune.

5. Not sure what the intent of Alvin Lee
was when he wrote this, but I do know Vietnam was hot and heavy then and it seems to me that was what he was referring to here......
but I could be wrong, been known to happen! :)

6. Social unrest
Alvin was also talking about all the social turmoil at the time. Narrator seems so overwhelmed with the litany of changes he doesn't know where to begin "so I'll leave it up to you." Paralyzed by change, yet not knowing what to do.

8. Religion
RELIGION
by Alvin Lee & Ten Years After
I never really understood religion
'Except it seems a good excuse to kill
I never really could make a decision
I don't surpose I ever really will.
I can't relate to any power structure
Where ego is the driving energy
I let mine go, long, long time ago, now
When I decided that I would be free.

Only thing I understand is living
The biggest sacrifice to make is death
Once you're dead, there's noting left for giving
Life means fighting for your every breath.
