"This was not a school prank. It went so far beyond that," Lanphier said. "This is not the same as running your father's underwear up the flag pole or spreading cotton candy in the trees or putting a Volkswagen in the quad. Anytime you kill animals it is a serious matter."
The investigation started at about 12:40 a.m. last Monday when a Dolgeville police officer checked the school and found that a deer, with decaying flesh and insects inside it, had been dropped in front of the front door of the James A. Green High School. Lanphier said the officer also found what appeared to be two freshly killed cats hanging from the DCS marquee and a "Do Not Enter" sign placed on school property.
A second dead deer carcass was found hanging from one of the fences on school property and eggs were thrown at the school while fish organs and a dead frog were also found on the marquee. Vulgar language directed towards a member of the school faculty was found spay painted on the sidewalk.
Lanphier said the investigation continued as his officers received information as to who was responsible for the vandalism. Further investigation showed the incident occurred at about 12:05 a.m. on June 15.
The chief praised his officers for their work on the case.
