In this day and age, I think anyone who burns popcorn at work....
should be automatically FIRED!!!!

I can't think of a worse smell and it'll hang here for the next 2-3 hours. Come on, microwavable popcorn is NOT new technology. We should all know that the recommend times on the bag of popcorn were based on Microwave Technology from the Reagan Era. Most brands of Microwavable Popcorn should NOT be popped for longer than 2:23 minutes (I have this down to a science). And what disturbs me even more is these idiots will put the popcorn in the microwave, set the timer for four minutes AND THEN LEAVE THE FUCKING BREAK ROOM for 10 minutes. MONITOR the damn stuff to make sure it's not BURNING!!!

8. Wait 'til some lamebrain burns fish in the micro
Smokes/stinks the joint up, closes the doors to the kitchen in hopes people might not notice it, then acts like a petulant child when you tell them they should not do that for several obvious reasons.

Professionals, my ass.

11. popcorn burners should be fired, people that make it well should
be forced to compensate the rest of the office that wants to leave work from the point of 'microwave "I'm done" ding' forward. At full salary. Because I sure as shit don't want to smell your fucking popcorn when I'm at work. If you find work is so fun you think you need some goddamn stinky ass fucking popcorn to enjoy it, you're not working hard enough.

and a big FUCK YOU to the office administrators that buy it in the first place!

I work at a movie theater. When I saw this subject line, I thought you were talking about us. We try not to, but we burn popcorn all the time. That's not the bad part, thought.

The bad part is when you have to try and fill up a popcorn bag while new popcorn is popping. Grease is hot! But that's nothing compared to melted sugar. According to the guy who trained us, melted sugar can burn through cloth, and leaves permanent scars. He had some to show us.

Now, that's a serious irritation.

15. No, that popcorn is fine
ususally I'm only in the lobby temporarily and the smell doesn't linger into the theater room I'm in. And OUCH on that sugar

BTW, welcome to DU!! :hi: You said you work in a movie theater - will they be showing Fahrenheit 9/11 at yours??

19. Anyone who re-heats seafood in the microwave at work........
should be strung up by their fugging TOENAILS.

A job I had a few years ago had a rule on the micro about popcorn. You MUST stay with your popcorn while it is being zapped. If you burn your popcorn, you must never cook popcorn again.

Apparently, someone had put some popcorn in the micro for some crazy amount of time---5 minutes or something?? Anyways, the popcorn caught on fire, caught the microwave on fire, and part of the counter.

The dimbulb who was the owner of the popcorn moved the stuff in the kitchen so that you couldn't tell it was burnt and never even TOLD anyone that the microwave caught on fire!!!

BUT----there wasn't a rule about re-heating seafood...I wished there was.

A rather nasty and unhygenic lady I worked with went to lunch one day and got a fish dish. Later that day she heated up the fish in the micro. P-U!

The next day she heated up the heated-up leftovers of the fish. DOUBLE PU!

The day after that she heated up the heated-up heated-up leftovers of the fish. TRIPPLE PU!!!

That office (and a sizeable office at that) stunk like fucking rotten fucking fish for a fucking MONTH!

Die, seafood re-heaters, DIE!

20. The Great Popcorn Paradox
When it's cooked properly, nothing smells BETTER.

When it's burned, nothing smells WORSE.
