Paramount Theater, Oakland California, some time in 1976...
The Tubes are on stage, performing "White Punks On Dope" as the grand finale to their "Young And Rich" tour performance in that fair city.
Fee Waybill, in his customary platform shoes and mile-high wig, yells out "Isn't that Boz Scaggs on dope?"
And dammit, in all the chaos and the dancers and the music, unbelievably overlooked, IS Boz Scaggs...riding high on the success of that year's blockbuster "Silk Degrees," hammering away on a white Fender Strat. Looking effing SHARP in a perfectly tailored blue pinstripe suit. And standing next to a guy in a gorilla suit, also holding a guitar. THIS, my friends, was rock and roll.
Tubes guitarists Roger Steen and Bill Spooner...plus Scaggs and the gorilla...bobbbing the necks of their guitars up and down in unison while Fee Waybill screamed "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Lynyrd Skynyrd guitar section!"
Sometimes a concert is a concert...sometimes it's a phenomenon.
