While driving to work today . . .
I saw a quote (in front of a church of all places) that I really liked, though I couldn't see the source (it was written at the bottom but not visible from the road):

"The question that is never answered is far less dangerous than the answer that is never questioned."

Not only is it a great quote, but it's a VERY strange quote to see posted in front of a church (where they don't really like you to question the answer most of the time).

Great stuff, now I have to try and find the original source.

1. Do you know what the denomination
of the church is?

Actually, that's a quote I'd love do discuss. I'm not sure I agree with the statement, because I'd suggest that these days it's the answer that's not questioned (the claim that Iraq had WMDs, the connecting of Al Qaeda and Saddam)that is worse. Of course, you could quite correctly point out that those answers have been questioned (especially in places like DU), but I'd be referring to the mainstream media. Anyway, you get the idea.

What I like more than anything about that quote is that I'm having an interesting discussion about it entirely in my own head. Thanks for posting it.

2. I think it was a Lutheran church, but I'm not sure to be honest. . .
The fact that the answer is not questioned is exactly the point of the quote.

A question left unanswered is far LESS dangerous than an answer left unquestioned.

Meaning that is more dangerous to accept an answer without question than it is to leave the original question unanswered.

3. Now I'm confused...
I thought I had it the first time.

But, yeah, the questions are always more important than the answers. Any idiot can come up with a reasonable answer, but it takes a clear mind to come up with a good question.

When we run out of questions, we are dead.

4. Let's break it down a little more.
Which is more dangerous of thee following:

A question for which you never find an answer; or

An answer which you accept without question?

The quotation I cited above takes the position (and I agree wholeheartedly) that it is much more dangerous to accept an answer without ever thinking to question the answer or the answerer.
