Conservative Group Claims Victory over 'Fahrenheit 9/11'

Although its distributors claim that Michael Moore's controversial Fahrenheit 9/11 will open in 858 theaters on Friday -- the biggest release for a documentary ever -- the conservative outfit Move America Forward, set up to battle the film, claimed victory Wednesday in its effort to induce theater owners to refuse to screen it, noting that the distributors will fall short of the more than 1,000 theaters that they had originally forecast. Sal Russo, who formed MAF from his political PR office in Sacramento, told CNSNews.com, a unit of the conservative Media Research Center, "Once the hard-core leftist political activists have seen the film this weekend its appeal will die down because the Blame America First constituency frankly is not that large." Meanwhile, the film broke sales records at two New York City theaters Wednesday as each sold out tickets before noon. The Village Cineplex 7 theater said that Fahrenheit sold $49,000 in tickets, beating the previous record of some $43,000 set by Men in Black in 1997. It planned to remain open throughout the night. The film earned an additional $30,000 at the Lincoln Plaza theater, where all sixteen screenings sold out.

Yeah, I see what those Neo-cons at Move America Forward are talking about. I see it now as Michael Moore, the Weinstein brothers, Lion Gates Film ant the 868 theaters that are showing the movie (the most for a documentary) will be crying all the way to the bank on this one

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Director Michael Moore (news)'s controversial documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" turned on the box office heat in its first day in theaters breaking single-day records at the two New York City theaters where it played.

The movie, which aims a critical eye at President Bush (news - web sites) and his prosecution of the war in Iraq (news - web sites), sold $49,000 worth of tickets at the Loew's Village 7 theater, beating the venue's single-day record of $43,435 held by 1997's "Men in Black," according to distributors Lions Gate Films and IFC Films.

At the Lincoln Plaza theater, "Fahrenheit 9/11" took in more than $30,000 to top the $24,013 set by "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" in 2000.

11. I bought my 38,000 tickets, just to confuse the real counts
as per the Liberal Daily Commandments From On-High Newsletter said that I should in order to make the left-wing conspiracy seem to be bigger than the 12 people it actually is.

I hope you bought your specified allotment of tickets, as well!!

Let's just hope that no conservatives actually go INTO the theaters and realize that those "sold-out" theaters are empty, or they'll REALLY be on to our ruse!!

5. Is that like Bush
Is them declaring victory like Bush declaring major combat operations in Iraq were over? (Followed by a rising insurgency) Or, declaring victory in Afghanistan? (only to have the prez of Afghanistan beg for more UN troops a few days later)

12. *giggle*
Amazing the kind of twisted, even Orwellian, logic these people use. Kind of like Jack Ryan claiming he hadn't done anything wrong because he didn't break any of the Ten Commandments.

13. Ah, using the same logic applied to the "Incredible economic recovery"
Look! 1.5 million new jobs!! Shrub is doing awesome!!

While conveniently leaving out that we're still about 2 million jobs below when the asshole started.

So, the initial forecast is for about 500, maximum, theaters to show the film. So the rightwingers come out and say "We're gonna do everything we can make sure that it doesn't make it to the 1,000 theaters they want to show it in!"

Then, when it ends up in nearly 400 more theaters than planned, the rightwingers claim victory.

If I were a rightwing shit-for-brains, I would have declared a much more significant victory by saying, "We wanted to keep the number of theaters showing the film under 6,000, and we got it under 900! WOO HOO!!! See, there are FAR MORE conservatives than knee-jerk idiot america-hating liberals in America! We kept them out of 5,200 theaters!!!"

Assmunches.
