My uncle passed away :(
We weren't very close, because he lived on the other side of the country, but I feel so upset for my Dad - he was his last living relative from his own immediate family. I wish I could go to the funeral to help support him but it's so far away. I won't be able to be with my parents for a few weeks at least... and talking on the phone seems so inadequate. :( What can I say?

This is the only time I've felt kind of bad about not living closer to home (not that I'm far away, but I don't have a car and just a weekend visit can be expensive).

2. Sorry about your uncle
I'm across the country from my family too. It's tough sometimes. I've missed several funerals I feel I should have attended.

3. I feel bad because I'm going home
for the bad times... and it makes me feel guilty about not being there enough for the regular times. If that makes sense.

5. Oh no
I have an aunt in the Denver area. We get along rather well, though I live in Michigan.

I'm sorry to hear about Uncle, though. I'll be thinking about you.

6. Best to you and your family in this difficult time
I know how hard it is to lose someone, even if you are not close.
I moved back to NY from Oregon after my dad died. That is what convinced me I was too far away. Plus I needed to be here for my mom.
I am very sorry for you and your dad.

7. Thanks guys
I decided to go home for the 4th of July. A nice long weekend to be together, though not as celebratory as usual.
