Clapton's Strat sells for $959,500 at auction

'Blackie,' the guitar Eric Clapton used on some of his biggest hits, was sold at an auction for $959,500 in New York on June 24, 2004. The Christie's auction house had expected the guitar to go for between $100,000 and $150,000. Blackie, being shown by Kerry Keane of Christie's, was among 88 guitars and other items Clapton and other musicians donated to raise money for Crossroads Center Antigua, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center Clapton founded in the West Indies. 2. I'd pay that much for that guitar
But only if I got to beat Clapton over the head with it for releasing "Pilgrim". What a piece of shit that was!

3. That's about $959,100 more than mine cost...
and mine's not used!

Just kidding. It's great to see that someone would buck up for the Crossroads Center in that amount.

Blackie may be one of the three or four best-known guitars out there, the others that come to mind are McCartney's violin-shaped Hofner bass, and of course Lucille (BB King).

12. At least that means he'll stop playing it.
Perhaps he'll give all the rehashed blues licks back to their original owners...
