Am I the only person who thinks Springsteen is not good?
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 11:34 AM by johnnie
I know he has come thru for the cause, but as I watch this video of "Born to run" I am laughing at what a goof he is. He always looks like he is in dire need for a laxative.
OK, he had one good song "Tenth avenue freezeout", other than that...why did people like him so much?

On edit-Changed the word "crap" to "not good"

5. What is wrong with you two?
There is a reason they call him "The Boss". I feel sorry for you both that you can't see the artistry and beauty that is his music.

9. Jealousy comes to mind.
I don't see anyone here being called the boss & for good reason. Just my two cents.

27. Note on "The Boss:"
Scairp, you wouldn't ingratiate yourself to Springsteen if you ever used that term of "endearment" in his presence.

It was coined by his crew... and it was NOT used in complimentary fashion. He is known to hate it.

2. If you need to ask what his appeal is
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 11:15 AM by Scairp
Then it's pointless to try and explain it to you. You don't have a clue and you will never understand.

11. Well thanks..lol
I think I have somewhat of a clue. I was just asking why people like him so much. I can understand that people obviously do like his music. I like Dylan and I hear people rip him apart all the time. I don't belittle people who don't like him, I appreciate their opinion.

8. Soulful Rock N' Roll
His first 4 albums are among the greatest ever released in rock n' roll in my opinion.

He's a great lyricist and writes songs for the marginalized whose voice was taken away. A great friend of labor, minorities, the poor, the young and hopeless, etc.

He's very talented imo.

If you don't like his bombastic records such as Born To Run, go listen to "Nebraska" or "The Ghost of Tom Joad" and you'll see what I'm talkin about.

10. I think he sums up streetwise well
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 11:22 AM by nothingshocksmeanymo
and has written some great lyrics on the tensions of relationships...familial and otherwise...he's does a lot with three chords...he's been prolific, and not quite but at least strived to be Dylanesque in his observations...I like lots of stuff he has written and some has been dog shit, but he's a great performer...connects with his audience..and put together a great band..I'll give credit. I'm sure some of it was just shit to fulfill the record deal....

23. while i like his politics his ability is pure bar band calibre
bush league big time

he is called the boss because he is an insufferable
bossy prick when dealing with his band mates.
This is his attempt to compensate for his lack of talent.

25. I was going to say that
"he is called the boss because he is an insufferable
bossy prick when dealing with his band mates."
But I figured I would need a link, and I am too lazy to look for proof on the net.

13. I always think he is going to pop a vein when he sings.
I have never liked a single thing he has done. I have always wondered why he was so popular. Maybe he eats Brillo pads to get his voice to sound like that. As a person I like him and I agree with his political views but musically he is just not my cup of tea.

15. I fell asleep at a springsteen concert
I don't care for his songs much, BUT he sure does put alot of energy into performing.

I just roll my eyes because I don't think the dude has ever had a blue collar job. NOt that outsiders can't write about material that they're not actually personally familiar with, but.... I just never liked his songs much, save a few.

20. In the beginning....
I saw quite a few of his live shows in the early and mid-seventies, and they were were extraordinary.....Like a lot of bands (The Who come to mind), by the time they achieve broad popularity, a lot of the magic is gone. I don't know if he's still "The Boss", but he damn sure was in 1974.

26. I adored his first two albums. . .
He lost me when "Born to Run" came out. Found his lyrics far more profound when he was struggling. I know it's a horrible cliche. . ."starving artist. . ." But every time I hear "Rosalita" for the zillionth time, I wish someone would finally play "New York City Serenade." Really wanted to hear that after 9/11.

Have missed alot of his stuff in recent years. But if he's willing to contribute to the cause by posting Gore's scathingly truthful speeches on his website then more power to him.

I mean shit, Kerry had to endure Neil Diamond the other night. Ughhhh.

We can't be choosers at this point I'm afraid.

I truly hope to hear more from the creative community over the coming months. We need them all desparately.
