5. Amok Time is *the* best but there are many high ranking ones
Journey to Babel
Where No Man Has Gone Before
Mudd's Women (it's a hoot)
The Doomsday Machine
The Immunity Syndrome
The Naked Now
Space Seed
Let That Be Your Last Battlefield
Day of the Dove
The Enterprise Incident
The Tholian Web
Turnabout Intruder
Bread and Circuses (dunno how a 'parallel earth' story managed to work, but this one does... oddly.)

6. The Way To Eden
Flame me if you must, but nothing beats the Spock jamming with the alien hippies on his Vulcan harp.

And Charles Napier is in that episode.

8. Headin' out to Eden... Yeah brother!
I would imagine those guys would have known where to get the best, erm, "supplies" for the journey to Eden.

I'm gonna crack my knuckles and jump for joy, got a clean bill of health from Dr. McCoy!

9. Well I'll crack my knuckles and jump for joy, I got a clean bill of health
from Doctor McCoy!

Chekov being Mr. Kiss-Ass (tm) didn't fly (I agree with the sentiment that characters changed so the plot could work), but I sure as hell think it's a fun romp of an episode.

<drool> And Charles Napier is HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-9 (well, the blond curly wig was horrid, but otherwise he was yummm-mmeeee!) </drool>

Spock seemed passably in character, as was McCoy.

11. City on the Edge of Forever
It was written by Harlan Ellison.

The worst? Gotta be Spock's Brain. That episode was a huge crapfest.

12. Depends, BlueJay.
Sometimes Harlan takes credit, sometimes he doesn't.

He was seriously pissed at Roddenberry for fucking up his original script.

The show itself won an award for Roddenberry, and the original script (not even CLOSE to what was filmed) won an award for Harlan. They despised each other thereafter... but then again, Harlan despises everybody.

14. Yeah, Harlan doesn't like anybody.
Screenplays are changed all the time by the people who actually know something about how a story will translate to the screen. He probably just threw one of his patented shit-fits that someone DARED to alter his story.

It's still probably the best, though. Solid acting (even Shatner), good story, etc...

My favotite episode for the sheer hammy-ness is A Piece Of The Action.

16. Great Harlan Ellsison Story
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 02:45 PM by King Of Paperboys
I have documentation for this, so it's not slander/libel.

Harlan, a notorious, albeit diminutive, womanizer, approaches a statuesque beauty at a gathering. With all his Ellisonian charm he says "What would you say to a little fuck?"

Without pause, the broad looks down on him and says "Hello, little fuck."

26. Okay, don't be ragging on Harlan. He's the man.
BTW, what is your documentation? H.E. is a longtime feminist and Equal Rights advocate. I mean, he CAN be very abrasive, but this sounds apocryphal.

Make it interesting.

20. Balance of Terror
I know the script is just a rip off of submarine warfare, but the whole episode is tense and keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's our first look at the Romulans as well. The ending was great, with Kirk and the Romulan commander saluting each other.
