Christian Rock Groups
Jesus Christ, what is the deal with these people? They are some of the greatest sounding groups I've ever heard. Cutting edge, great guitar tones, great vocals, and everything. Its like every time I hear or see one on TV, I'm like, "Goddam, those fuckers are great!"

Anyone else ever noticed the hiqh quality of these groups? I really liked Pray For Rain back in the 90's. What a great band!

4. I find most Christian rock to be sappy, shmarmy, saccharine, uninteresting
theologically weak crap.

Though there are a couple good ones: Delirious and DC Talk spring to mind.

5. Christian Rock goes against
everything Rock is supposed to stand for. If your religious great, good for you, but don't be in a rock band. Being in a rock band is about doing drugs, fucking groupies, and all other kinds of depraved things. It isn't about being a good christian. That is why these bands piss me off.

I find God everywhere any way. I don't have to listen to anybody or anything specifically marketed as "christian." In fact, I'd rather not. They're not looking to sell to someone like me any way.

11. I love Evanescence
Very talented young people. I know they don't market themselves as a Christian rock group, but many of Amy Lee's lyrics definitely have a spiritual element, which can be perceived in many different ways.

10. One band that was, arguably, a 'Christian' band that I liked.
King's X. Their lyrics were more spiritually than scripturally oriented, though, and they didn't hammer on their crowds with overt messages like many have done over the years.

Lots of their songs were more about questioning the place of religion in their lives than about how people should believe in a supreme being or 'clean themselves up,' so to speak. And man, there was some serious playing ...

26. Lame?
I remember them from the 80's. They were not lame at all! They were awesome for their time and heavy style.

Also, Stryper was very principled. They were offered millions of dollars by big record companies to drop the Christian persona, but they refused. They might regret that now, though.

15. Trouble
Old school underground metal fans may remember them. Extremely heavy, Sabbath-style doom metal. Their lyrics had Christian themes, but you would never know it since they sounded like dead ringers for Black Sabbath. Not to mention they never wore their spiritual beliefs on their sleeves. Awesome band, if I remember correctly. They were the antihesis of Stryper.

Here's a link to their first album:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000001C7U/ref=m_art_li_1/103-2672015-5324645?v=glance&s=music

Now I ask: would you take them for a Christian band?

18. ?
Rock musicians, good and bad, come in many flavors, including Christian and non. Not sure if I understand the quandary.

My son's band is on a "Christian" label, however, there's 3 Christians and a Buddhist in the band. So they don't really consider themselves to be a "Christian band". They frequently play "Christian" venues but often play in bars and are on the same bill as bands that are non-Christian, and often atheist or even satanist. They don't preach at their shows but will certainly take the time to talk to anyone wanting to know about their faith, which they don't hide.

As for how they sound, I think they're fucking great!

You might not even know they were "Christian" unless you studied their lyrics. I heard one group do an incredible, knocked version of The Who's "I'm Free" off of Tommy.

I'll tell you what, that Rebecca St. James was one hot little number.

Some Christian cable channel plays videos on Saturday nights. In OKC, I believe its KTBO.

This "Christian" band did a version of "I'm Free" that practically brought me to tears. MUCH better than The Who. Honestly!

29. Rant warning!
Anything that starts with the word "Christian" is an automatic turn off for me. "Christian Rock" is an oxymoron.

There's a hell of a lot of good money out there just waiting to be spent by Freepers, bushies and millions of other non-thinkers on anything labeled "Christian".

Someday someone will open a "Christian" porn shop and become a millionaire overnight. I can see it now...christians buying sex toys and not feeling guilty about it. "Hey, it's a 'Christian' dildo...it's okay".

I'm a fucking genius. :eyes:

Rant over...carry on.

One of them was, in my mind, the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. Then I found out she was in fact part of a Christian qaurtet. I then got dissapointed cuz I would never be able to have sex with her unless we got married. :(

47. ROFL
There was an episode of South Park not too long ago where Cartman formed a Christian rock band on a dare...one of the funniest episodes ever, all they did was take the word "baby" out of saucy songs and put "Jesus" instead. The part at the end where they performed at the fundie youth rally is comedy gold.

They *totally* skewered Christian rock, it was brilliant...everything from the inept record companies on down to the unbelievably cheesy album covers. I don't remember the name of the ep offhand but you've *got* to see it. As a recovering evangelical who was forced to listen to that crap by fundie parents it was like free therapy...
