Poll question: Football, Basketball, or Baseball
I think Football is infintely more exciting than the other two. And basketball is way better than baseball.

12. Yeah
Martin was fired damn near every time he woke up in the morning. But he took up for his players when the umps screwed them-and dressed his players down when they got lazy. Billy Martin-one hell of a guy in my book.

But I'm stuck out here in Seattle, and we don't appear to have a major league baseball team. So sad, really.:D

22. Eeep!
Fighting and rough play is what's wrong with the NHL. NCAA and Olympic hockey are infinitely more fun to watch.

20. Football is nearly the perfect team sport
Strategy and specialization, plus the ability to score on both offense and defense. Eleven players on each side, and nearly unlimited situational substitution, provide for fascinating individual matchups and countless variations in style of play. Plus the 45 or so seconds between plays allows just enough time to review the previous play and anticipate the next one. Virtually every criticism of football can also be argued as a strength.

IMO, basketball was a much better game prior to the 3 point shot, especially on the collegiate level. There are more permutations at the end of games with that puny 3 pointer, but I absolutely can't believe the sport is still revered when you basically have 3 players per team standing there making sure their toes are behind an arbitrary line for the bulk of the game. Moving without the ball has been de-emphasized, passing is much worse and you almost never have five guys crashing the boards. It was hardly a coincidence the USA's amateur dominance collapsed shortly after the collegiate 3 point shot was adopted in '87.

I love pure team sports with physical matchups like football and basketball, or pure individual sports like golf and tennis that showcase mental ups and downs. A sedentary hybrid like baseball doesn't cut it for me, especially with the win today/lose tomorrow doldrums of 162 games. But the baseball postseason, bum pitchers all but excluded, is undeniably tense and terrific every year.
