I watched a man die last night.
http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/story?id=1830632

I was watching this on ESPN2. Everything seemed normal until the car just disintegrated and caught fire. The safety crew was there in seconds, but I guess there wasn't much they could do for him.

RIP Darrell Russell and good thoughts for his family.

2. Man, it takes a lot of chutzpah to be in auto sports
If you think about NASCAR, you're basically flying around an ovular track at unsafe speeds strapped into a bomb. In NHRA, the speed goes up past the point of sanity.

3. I saw it too but hadn't heard how he was doing.
I was hoping he'd make it.

5. It didn't look that horrific at full speed.
I've seen race wrecks that looked a hell of a lot worse where the driver walked away. But then Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s wreck didn't look that bad either...

I mean...it looked bad, but not THAT bad...

7. How awful. I am so sorry that you had to witness this
I know that this is just one of the hazards of participating in this, but I just cannot imagine why someone would take the chance. What a tragedy.:-(
