10. It's a regional thing
As a Minnesotan, I grew up saying "pop." You're an Easterner. You grew up saying "soda."

16. Both are incorrect!
Having been born and spending my first 5 years in Boston, and as a matter of coincidence having parents who also were born and grew up in the Boston area, let me be the first to say that the proper term is "tonic".
Of course everywhere else that is considered a little odd, so I just use the terms "Coke", "Pepsi", "7-Up" etc. Usually if you order a soda from someone they ask you "what kind?" anyways, so it's kind of a short cut I suppose.
That is, when I think or talk about soft drinks/soda/pop/tonic, which isn't very often. In fact I'm probably devoting more time to the subject than I really ought to right now. I don't really drink them that often.

17. I'd never heard it called soda until I was 14
I went back to Washington, DC, and made the mistake of asking, "What kind of pop do you have?" and everyone laughed at me. If someone says soda here, you can pretty much guarantee they're not from around here.
