keep the original, do you really need the special features?
I wanted to do the same with the Great Escape and Saving Private Ryan then I realized its a waste of money. Goodfellas is a great movie but I really dont need the special DVD though that commentary sounds interesting.

3. You can keep your first-generation, no extras, DVD if you want...

but I for one hate having to flip the disc halfway through the movie. And Scorsese should be good on the commentary.

Even the cut version was worth watching. I haven't gotten it on DVD yet, so I guess waiting was a good thing.
