Question for computer fiends -- .bin, .cue files from torrent

I've extracted files I've downloaded and have 1 .bin file and 1 .cue file.

I used just a regular CD-burning software to transfer those to files to a CD.

How do I get the thing to play? It's a film.

help! thanks.

1. It's a VCD
Sort of the precursor to DVD and still very popular in Asian countries. VCD has VHS like quality and SVCD has SVHS like quality.

The .bin file is the binary data and the .cue file is metadata.

I use Nero and you can just select the Disk Image option and point it at the .cue file. You'll wind up with a VCD (or SVCD).

Look for the .DAT file in the MPEGAV directory on the CD. It's a standard MPEG2 file. WinAmp or Windows Media Player should play it.

Alternatively, if you don't want to burn it to a CD you can get a free program called DaemonTools which will allow you to mount the .cue/.bin as a virtual CD. After installing DaemonTools you'll have an icon in your system tray that you can right click on and mount the virtual CD. It'll show up in Windows just like a regular CD or DVD.

Finally, I wholeheartedly recommend another free program called VideoLAN for all your video playing needs. It's able to play just about everything out there (and if you want, stream the video over a network).

2. Format?
Divx, xvid, mpeg-4?

You need the appropriate codec for playback, in any case (enCOder-DECoder). If you're using Windows Media Player, you should find what you need here: http://www.codec-download.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=MostPopular

3. VCD is MPEG-1

SVCD is MPEG-2.

I mis-typed in my earlier post. Almost everything will play it already, although as I mentioned I really recommend VideoLAN.

4. It isn't necessarily vcd OR svcd, though.
MOST of the films you can find on file-sharing networks are, in fact, divx or xvid.

And...to the original poster: You need to open your CD-burningsoftware, and make sure it supports burning images from cue sheets (the *.cue file).

THEN, select "burn image", select the *.cue file, and burn.

You CAN'T just put the *.cue and *.bin on a disc and have it work, I'm afraid.
