I need a hobby that a crafts-challenged person can do.
I'm serious, I can't work and have too much spare time. My artistic ability is about that of a third grader. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

2. Volunteering at a nursing home, hospital, burn center, Shriner's, etc.
Or a gay center, or at your church/synogogue/mosque/temple/whatever.

There's also political activism, registering people to vote, community action boards, picking up litter on the highway, cleaning parks or working on the landscaping, etc. etc. etc.

And there's also stamp collecting, coin collecting, comic book collecting, first edition signed book collecting, etc.

Coaching sports for kids (not necessarily the serious, boring kind, but for the kids who want a league to have fun and just play and enjoy themselves without their type-A gum chewing asshole dad forcing them into a league with uniforms and rules and shit). Or you could be a timekeeper, referee, or even just a fan.

You could drive shutins and the elderly to and fro their hospital/clinic visits.

There's meals on wheels, habitat for humanity, and most every local community has a homeless/hungry/poverty helping organization, and they ALWAYS need volunteers.

There are surely after school groups that might need a volunteer, and someone with some experience in life to act as mentors to troubled youth. Or even youth who aren't troubled. Maybe your church/whatever youth group needs another adult advisor. Trust me, every youth group ALWAYS needs another adult, and, quite honestly, the older the better.

You could start a newsletter.

Oh, so many, many options!

3. How about collecting?
Its like being on a treasure hunt every day.I get a thrill out of holding history in my hand. The fact someone more talented then I crafted a piece of work with pride moves me.I started out collecting pittsburg glass companies.I am now an antiques dealer. Not too far of a jump to go from collector to dealer. You go to an auction and have to buy 3 vases when you only wanted one.It didnt take long for me to figure out .. sell the two I didnt collect to pay for the one that I did.
My husband now loves to go to auctions, shows etc with me.He loves the challenge. Its like your own personal stock market lol.(ebay or collector sites online)So try going on your own personal treasure hunt. You will get to hold our history in your hand, admire craftsmanship ,and perhaps make money .

If that doesnt do it for you.Try scrapbooking.Thats a great hobby .
You do not need to be crafty to do it.Just compile your life, composites of what you like into an attractive keepsake journal, album or what ever format you prefer.

4. I appreciate the suggestions
and I'm going to try to work on some of them. My problem is that the reason I'm disabled is that I have severe clinical depression. Some days it's tough getting out of bed. I want to try to do something to focus on something other than how bad I feel.

5. Learn MUSIC!!!
Yes, you can!

Some simple questions:

Do you love music?

What are your favorite instruments?

The kind of sound(s) do you like?

What kind of rhythm do you like? - to dance to?

How much time and money do you have?

Playing music trains the mind, exercises the body, and soothes the soul. It's worth a try.

6. Habitat for Humanity?
It sounds crafty, but you spend most of the time shlepping things, knocking down walls with sledghammers and painting rooms with rollers. (And if you do a bad job, what the hell they're only poor kids.)

Just kidding. I was clinically depressed for years. Habitat got me out of the house and meeting new people. The exercise and fresh air do you good and you get that warm glow knowing you're really helping people.

7. Nothing like knocking down walls to make you feel better...
doing something useful and vigourous always made me feel better when I got down. And if people are relying on you it forces you to go along. Still takes a bit of courage to actually get started.

Helps to see how grand life really is. Depression is a state of mind, not reality.I've been there, and got past it, so can you. be brave and have something to look forward to.....
