4. Let's talk about evil sports franchises
Q: Who was the last MLB franchise to integrate?

A: The Boston Red Sox

5. That was 45 years ago
Is the ownership still the same? Is the management still the same? I can guarantee that the players aren't the same.

The Yankees were fourth from the last, so they're not exactly a positive example.

So what exactly was your point, other than flamebait?

6. Yankees are alot like repugs....
money rules all. Lynch both Georges....W and Steinbrenner. Repugs have ruined the country and the Yankees have ruined baseball. I guess I can't blame Steinbrenner...he is just taking advantage of the rules set-up by the other conservative owners in baseball. Whats the point in having a minor league? If you develop a great player in the minors, you might keep him for a year or two, then you won't be able to afford him so he'll end up with the Yanks or someother big market team....baseball is in the same mess as the country...money rules all. Yes,I realize the Yanks haven't won the last two WS but smaller markets have...don't see that happening too many more times.

7. Simple Question
Edited on Tue Jun-29-04 02:54 PM by noahmijo
If the Yankees didn't exist who would be BY A HUGE margin the richest team in baseball today?

Thought so.

The Yankees happen to be based in the largest city in the country. Most Yankee fans (including myself) HATE Stimey-Brenner, but love our fabulous and classy players like Jeter, Rodriguez, Posada, Mussina, ect not to mention those of us also from The Bronx had little to nothing else to be proud of except our Yankees.

How could you equate the Yanks with the Repubs? last I checked the only deaths the Yanks are responsible for are for those Red Sox fans who committed suicide after their beloved team lost game 7 of the 2003 ACLS (this is a joke I have no such proof that this actually happened).

For Footbill I'm a Bills fan. Know why? cause they're the only TRUE team from New York even if it is Upstate, at least their stadium is actually in the state of New York.

No matter how bad they suck I stick with them because I stay loyal to the teams I grew up rooting for based on where around I lived.

But of course my claims always fall on the deaf ears of the moronic die hard Lakers fans here in Arizona who have never even been to a Lakers game in their lives.

10. You know I don't even like to rag on Red Sox fans
REAL Red Sox fans directly outta Boston I tell them hey you should be proud your team does kick ass, to me I understand the rivalry, but I don't join in the hate fest.

What PISSES ME OFF are NON Red Sox fans, people who don't even follow baseball who would never understand the pride of being a Sox or Yankee fan, talking all kinds of shit like when the Yanks lost the world series.

As if they had been die hard Marlins fans for the last 10 years.

THAT is what pisses me off and gets me going. Especially out here in Redneck Tucson where people just love to throw the whole "haha Diamondbacks beat the Yanks!" it's like did you even know Az had a team before the world series???

13. I like to rag on Red Sox fans
Because of the way they're always making rooting for the Red Sox into some sort of Passion Play.

Yes, it's been a long time since they've won a world series, but how does that make them different from other teams who've gone equally long stretches with no WS wins?

How are they any worse off than fans of the Cubs, White Sox or Indians, whose last World Series wins were in 1908, 1917, and 1948.

Not to mention, how many teams are there who've never won a World Series in franchise history?

The Astros (1962), Rangers (1961), Mariners (1977), and Expos (1969) have never even been to one. The Giants last one was in 1954 when they were the New York Giants.

Red Sox fans don't necessarily have it worse than the fans of any number of teams. They just whine about it the loudest.

So anyway, Boston fans, you've got a pretty good team. Enjoy them and stop acting like the world is going to end if you don't win the World Series. Every year there's 28 other teams who didn't win it either.

12. I hate the "Red Sox are crying poor" argument.
When we Red Sox fans bemoan the runaway spending of the Yankees, it absolutely drives me nuts when Yankees rebut with, "well, Boston is number TWO!"

Yankees payroll: $184 million
Red Sox payroll: $127 million
MLB Average payroll: $69 million

Sorry, but when the difference between #1 and #2 is nearly the league average payroll, there's a serious problem.

And just because we're #2 doesn't negate the validity of our argument that George Steinbrenner and the Yankees are destroying baseball as we know it.

14. That argument might hold a thimble full of water
If Boston didn't spend every offseason raiding talent from poorer franchises.

Pedro Martinez? Curt Schilling? Manny Ramirez?

Sorry Alex Rodriguez didn't work out for you. :eyes:

16. Yeah, whatever
The Red Sox only started their "Yankees are bad for baseball" whining when they got outmaneuvered for A-Rod.

Again, pardon me for being less than sympathetic to the team that imported Keith Foulke, Curt Schilling, and Pokey Reese in the off season.

11. Money matters, but it isn't just money
The Yankees have also been successful because they have a good organization.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the richest teams in baseball but haven't done anything in the last 16 years.

20. I hate the Yankees, too, but I don't want to see the NFL in MLB
The last thing I want to see is an entire league of regulated mediocrity. I only follow the NFL for my fantasy league these days.

The Yankees can and have been beat. I don't want to get turned off of another sport.

18. hey. did you see/hear Cheney get booed last night??
check it out:
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2004/06/29/sports2205EDT0387.DTL

"Cheney, who visited both clubhouses after batting practice, watched part of the game from the box of Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and part from a first-row seat next to the Yankees dugout, where he sat between New York Gov. George Pataki and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. Cheney was booed when he was shown on the right-field videoboard during the seventh-inning stretch."

p.s. I saw the Yankees last night, too. the Staten Island Yankees.
