Best drum part in a song without a drum solo?
I was listening to Led Zeppelin for the first time in years, and I just found something really cool about the drum part in "Good Times Bad Times"

It got me curious: what do you think the best drum part is in a song that doesn't include a drum solo?

3. Almost anything by Keith Moon...
....The Who.
terrific, powerful, unpredictable, great musicianship.
he does everything necessary, everything to keep the song moving along, and then he throws in all of these beautiful EXTRAS that just knock you out.
Concenrate on the drums while listening to "Substitute," or "MY Generation."
unbelievable...

"Daddy Rolling Stone" by the Who. Keith had some great drum parts thru his career.

30. Oh, I sooo agree!
He should have been sloppy and all over the place (like so many drummers we auditioned that tried to copy his style). But he kept it together, and was always just an inch from the edge.

A lot of that credit you gotta give to Entwhistle--that guy was a bass GOD!!! He played freakin LEAD bass--and together they were an incredible rhythm section.

9. Anything by Stewart Copeland with The Police
At least from the early days (before Sting co-opted the band out of the punk reggae roots). There's some very interesting stuff going on.

Likewise, when Phil Collins was with Brand X, there are some good bits, too.

And of course, anything by Monkeyspank (three drummers, two bassists, and a guitarist/vocalist), but they didn't get too far out of DC, so good luck finding any...

Not really rock n roll, but pretty intricate stuff nonetheless.

15. Steve Miller - Take The Money And Run
Very interesting drum work in that song.

Also, almost every Dave Matthews Band song. It doesn't matter if you like Dave or not, you have to admit that Carter Beaufort is the SHIT! Listen to "Say Goodbye" if you don't agree. That dude is the best "jazz drummer" in a pop-band ever.

the entire album Presence contains some of John Bonham's finest work,IMHO. Nice to see Tommy Bolin made the list too but I guess I've always been partial to Ian Paice. I've been listening to "Burn" the last couple of weeks and I really like "You Fool No One".

39. Red Sector A by Rush
One of the best pieces I've seen Neil do is on the Show of Hands video. He goes from Red Sector A to The Rhythm Method (the drum solo he used to do in concert--the new one is La Baterista) to The Spirit of Radio without taking a break, and those are three man-killer pieces. What's even more impressive: The Rhythm Method and The Spirit of Radio use different drum kits.

Another drummer I really like is Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain. Check out such tunes as Hallowed Be Thy Name, Run To The Hills and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

44. Martin Chambers
I am proud to say that I saw the original Pretenders while they were on tour promoting their very first album.

I watched Martin Chambers flail away on the drum kit, and I swear with every second beat he tossed a stick into the crowd.
Before it was two feet away he had another.

That was one of the most fierce performances I've ever seen.

Anyone know who "Country Dick Montana" was?

Much credit to those who have seen this maniac play before he passed away.
