What should we do/where should we go in Nova Scotia?

My husband and I are going to NS for our 30th anniversary. We're taking the Cat to Yarmouth, spending a night in Lunenburg then 2 nights in Halifax. Where in Cape Breton should we go next? Any "don't miss" sites? Is Baddeck a central location for touring Cape Breton?

I've only ever been to Yarmouth. I'm very excited about touring Nova Scotia. I may even look for property...just in case.

1. I would go to St. Pierre/Miquelon

Ok, it's actually in Newfie, and I don't know anything about it, except that it's part of France, and I think that's cool, so I would go there.

Yep, part of France. We'll probably stick to the main part of Novs Scotia, though.

3. You absolutely have to

drive the Cabot Trail along the west coast of Cape Breton. Take 2 days, and be willing to stop. One day means you are on a schedule and feel pressed to keep going. My preference would be from south to north. You climb the highlands and then drop as you go east to Bras Or Lakes, very impressive, more so than north to south.

Baddeck is central, but there are enough motels, B&Bs elsewhere that you needn't have a base at all.

If you like history then Louisburg is a must see. A recreation of the French fortress guarding their western Atlantic naval base, it's a step back in time that's well done.
