Do you/did you ever *walk* in your sleep?

I never have, but I've heard some funny stories from people who have.

The funniest had to be the guy who told me how when he was about 8 years old, he walked downstairs, still totally asleep, and walked into the kitchen where his parents were still sitting and talking. He opened the refrigerator, pulled open the vegetable drawer, and took a long piss in it! :o After that, he got treatment for a sleep disorder, but he never remembered anything he did while sleepwalking.

It can be pretty dangerous, I guess.

1. Yes it can.
There've been people who drive during these episodes.

I did as a kid but people should grow out of it as they get older.

2. Driving? That's really scary. Sheesh.

It's fascinating and really bizarre. I've only heard funny stories...didn't intend to make light of illness, though.

6. Yes. One patient drove to his
factory parking lot in the middle of the night before he woke up.
I know you didn't mean to poke fun. On the surface a somnabulist can be kinda funny if they're just walking around the house. Just keep car keys, knives and guns locked up tight.

3. Been there, almost done that
my sister stopped me in time. Tougher trick for a girl too! ;-)

My sister and I shared a room, so she knew about my sleepwalking and talking when I was very young. I guess it stopped about puberty. No funny stories from family members catching me cruising around after about then.

Used to get up late at night, sit down on the sofa with my mom, chat, feed the fish then go back to bed. Next day, she would refer to something we had discussed and I wouldn't have a clue what she was talking about.

I now am a champion lucid dreamer. Also have a lot of precognition. And I generally know when a dream is a prediction. Just can't get those pesky lotto #s!

4. Lucid dreaming...

I experience that once in a great while. It's fascinating, and I know you're supposed to be able to control when you have it, but I've never been able to. I always try to fly, jump off tall buildings, or have a sexual encounter. :D

Precognition.. amazing. I can't say I have that gift.

So, you attempted to pee in the fridge drawer, too? Wow, I always thought this guy's story was unique. :-)

5. When I was about 14,
I woke up one morning with mud and grass on my feet and all over my sheets. I also had two pieces of outgoing mail my parents had placed in the mailbox. Must've had a dream about being a mailman.

BTW, I have a friend who, while sleeping, has pissed in a closet, a fridge and a kitchen sink. But these episodes also involved alcohol.

7. That's crazy!!

You are so silly! Just kidding. No offense to somnambulists. It's just the idea of a teenage boy imagining he's a mailman, in his sleep no less. :P

But I'm glad you didn't hurt yourself. Man, if you go out to the mailbox, you could just as easily get hit by a car. :scared:

10. The funny thing is, that's the only time I ever
sleepwalked...I think. The other guy I referred to would roam the neighborhood at night when he was a kid. :scared:

My sister used to do the same thing...except she'd roam the house. She frequently thought "they" were invading...foreigners, aliens, burglars. It took quite a lot to snap her out of her sleep.

How old is your sis-twerp (as my big brother, 28, affectionately calls me)?

17. Naw, I'm only coming up on 22.

It's funny though, you know, you've always sort of reminded me of him. He's fairly dark complexioned for a white guy, really dark hair, and very crude but funny in his sense of humor. Plus he lived in Chicago for several years and introduced me to that city.

When do you leave for Ireland? Is your wife going?

18. It looks like I'll be leaving in very late August
And my wife is going, but she'll return for a couple of weeks after we find a place to live. The sad thing is my little buddy Leon can't come over to join us until November 8.

19. Oh no!

I'm sure he'll be in good hands until then, though. You wouldn't have it any other way, I can't imagine. :-) That's a long time to be without your dog, though.

At least you'll be able to bring him. I've known people who have had to leave their pets when they move for one reason or another.

20. He'll be with the retired mother-in-law.
She's in love with him. When she calls, she doesn't ask about her daughter or me first...it's always "How's my puppy?" I think he'll be treated just fine. :)

Yep, to take him over there (or the UK for that matter), we had to get him microchipped and tested for rabies. That was May 8, and there's a six month waiting period before he's allowed to enter the country. If we showed up with him they would give us three choices: quarantine, euthanasia, or turn the fuck around. I only wish I knew I was going to end up there earlier. I'm going to miss the little bastard for two months. :(

22. I was going to post my experience, but its almost exactly like yours
Except there was no mail. I remember dreaming there was a party going on in the barn (don't ask me why I'd dream of partying with cows, I was an odd one). I must have walked down the stairs, unlocked the front door (it had both a normal lock and one of those chain locks on it) and went outside, barefoot and in tight-whities, in 50F weather. Even that didn't wake me up though. I recall I couldn't figure out how to get into the barn though, which is ironic since I just unlocked and opened the house front door. I stood there for a bit, confused, then went back to the house. The next morning my dad was freaking out thinking we were burglarized until he followed the muddy footprints to my bed. It could have been worse, if I had gotten into the barn it might have been more than mud I tracked through the house!

8. when I was about ten or so I used to...
One time, apparently i ran down the stairs and into the living room, full tilt. Unfortunately, since my sister was having a slumber party, she closed a door that normally was always open. All I remember was sitting on the floor with a throbbing lump on my forehead.

9. I have been startled awake several times
over the years by Boy Scouts who wander all the way across camp in their underwear & barefoot completely asleep while at summercamp.

Be prepared.

21. My Husband Doesn't Walk

in his sleep, but he talks a lot in his sleep. Sometimes he'll say my name in a normal tone, and I'll ask him "What?" and I'll look over at him and he's asleep. Another time he said "It can't be!"

He's also a "sleep kisser"...

23. I used to sleep walk, when I was little, but grew out of it
Now, my biggest sleep weirdness is seeing things -- usually bugs, mice or spider webs, crawling or forming along the walls and ceiling of wherever I'm sleeping. It happens when I'm sleeping lightly, or just falling asleep, but they linger for a few seconds after I'm fully awake, too.

24. I have.... within the past year
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 08:01 AM by Misunderestimator
Had guests over and all the bedrooms were filled, so someone was sleeping on the couch in the living room. In the middle of the night I got up, walked to the living room and sat down in a chair. Woke up just sitting there... straight upright. Freaky.

25. Similar experience.
Several years ago we were helping our daughter and husband pack for a cross country move from San Diego to Boston. They graciously gave us their bedroom (small apartment) and slept on the sofa bed.

In the middle of our first night there (as told to me by Miz t.) I got up, walked over to a chest of drawers, pulled out the bottom drawer, and took a leak into it. Closed the drawer and went back to bed.

She said I appeared to be asleep the whole time and she was afraid to wake me. I don't remember a thing about it. Have no idea what brought it on. Luckily the drawer was empty. I was very embarrassed. Still am.

That's funny but I can see where it would be very embarassing indeed!

That was big of you to post it here. If we laugh, know that we are laughing with you, not at you. :-)
