I turned down a job...
...it was at a startup. They were looking for someone to work for low pay (about $30k under the area avg. for the position) and put out 90 hours weeks. After 6 months if everything worked they would get more funding and there would have been a promotion to 'Senior scientist' and a salary that was still $30k under the typical salary for the area for that title. (thanks, salary.com!)

Beware of jobs where the boss brags about putting in 110 hour weeks and is looking to have late evening meetings twice a week. I have a wife and infant son, and I actually like to see them...so I said 'thanks but no thanks.'

On the other hand, it was flattering to get offered a job at the end of the interview.

1. Startups can be very rewarding
Both financially and career wise.

But they also have their cost. I've done the mega hours thing in a startup and it has a place in life and career, but when you have a wife and baby at home, imo thats not the time.

based on what u wrote, i think u made the right decision.
