"The Story of a Rock and Roll Band"

Don't get much more sanctified than that. (Well, except maybe when Todd Rundgren covers you...)

Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 02:10 PM by LiberalVoice
No, I'm not gay...No, i/m not a 12 year old girl. I am a 21 year old who just happens to love Nsync!

I have ALL their albums, including both Justin Timberlakes solo album and JC Chasez solo album. I have listened to them since they released their first album here in America. I know the words to every single one of their songs. Released or Unreleased. Then again I know the words to almost every single by Queen, Prince, Elton John, Craig David, Norah Jones, Styx, and all the LOTR Soundtracks!

Backstreet Boys can kiss my ASS!

Back in the sixties and got to be on Action with them. She had a crush on Fang, but Mark Lindsay was actually the one who was nicest to her. I've heard the whole story about a dozen times. She had an autographed stuffed toy -- don't know if it was actually from the band or was the mascot of the Action show.

151. Haven't listened to napalm death in years
I used to love them, but just moved on.Shane and Danny Herrara from ND are in a band with Buzzo from the Melvins and Kevin Sharp from Brutal Truth, called Venomous Concept. The CD just came out this week.I've only heard a couple tracks and it's pretty damn aggressive shit :)

http://www.venomousconcept.com/

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE Melt Banana.Cell Scape is easily my favorite CD in years, but thier early stuff is great too.I just saw them right before Easter with Fantomas and they were fantastic!

Pig Destroyer is the same guy from Agorophobic,Scott Hull.PD has a real drummer even! It's similiar to AN but a little more structured (very little).Just as a brutal though.I like them a tad better than AN,but my friend likes AN just a tad better than Pig Destroyer :) You wont go wrong if you like Agorophobic...trust me! Thier new CD will have 2 discs, one full of music and the other a twisted story of some kind (when you hear the bit "Jennifer" off of Prowler in the Yard you'll have an idea what to expect  ). Plus it will all be in 5.1 Dolby Surround...bwahahahahahahahaha!

I have heard of Impaled Nazarene but haven't heard them yet.Someone else mentioned them to me so I guess I should check it out :)

Arab on Radar I've never heard of at all,and that's suprising because there isn't much that escapes my friend and I.I'll see if I can find something by them though. Thanks for the tips :)

They're just silly. One song's lyrics is "you're kids are not safe from us homosexuals." I nearly died laughing. About a month after I heard that song the big "sniper" thing came up in Ohio, and he said "you're kids are not safe!" I immediately called my friend and screamed into the phone "you're kids are not safe...from us homosexuals!"

They have other equally ridiculous rhymes/lyrics. From the same song, called Semen on the Mount:

Your kids will devil with their devilish stuff,
Your kids will dream about their, teacher's muff.

*on edit*

Arab on Radar has broken up, they're now in a band called the Chinese Stars, it's a little different, more structure to the songs, but still really good and worthy of checking out.

31. Barry Manilow and The Carpenters
I have a couple of his Greatest Hits records... with Mandy, Weekend in New England, Copacabana, Trying to Get the Feeling, Could it Be Magic...

... not that I'm longing for a return to "the good ole days", but this music reminds me of growing up in the terrific home I grew up in, with one of the few functional families left on the planet. I guess it just makes me realize how lucky I am.

And can anyone deny that Karen Carpenter had one of the most amazing tones in pop music? Rich, deep, smooth.... very nice. And her bro was pretty good at arranging music.

44. I know a Monkees fanatic
She has a wonderful collection of Monkees recordings and swag. I look at her holdings with the same admiration and respect as any serious collection of match book covers, coins, or anything else one chooses to adore.

They played at the San Diego Street Scene a couple of years ago. They happened to be on stage at the same time as the Village People. I was torn, but in the end the Monkees' seniority won me over.

I gotta disagree about seeing them live though. Both times I've seen them at Polaris, I thought that LeRoi stunk up the joint. Then again, being that I'm a sax player, I was probably overly critical of him. All I kept thinking was "Fuck. I can play better than him!" heh heh.

Leroi and Boyd are both marginal musicians. It's Carter, Stefan and Dave that really make the band, imho.

154. Hey, the Tubes were cool as a band and as performance artists !!
Especially Fee Waybill throwing the fake "Qaaludes" into the audience!

Their music had a touch of Broadway, vaudeville, and burlesque!!

What Do You Want From Life
White Punks On Dope
Don't Touch Me There
TV Is King

and I believe Todd Rundgren produced at least one of their albums!

one of my favorite live albums - and Fee doing crazy shit through the whole show.

148. I have a KC and the Sunshine lp somewhere...
..."Greatest Hits"...It's got them all on it... "Shake Shake Shake (Shake Your Booty)", "That's the Way (Uh-Huh Uh-Huh)" , "Get Down Tonight"...I can't remember anything else by them, its been at least a decade since I played it!
Come to think of it I have a bunch of really cheesy disco lps I bought for cheap mainly because they were "cheesy"...A disco version of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", an lp of nothing but disco covers of Led Zeppelin songs (including Stairway to Heaven), disco lp of beer barrel polka songs, Christmas carols, etc etc etc...

They're in a box in the basement, I hope they're ok, someday I'll sell them on eBay and make enough money to pay for my retirement world tour!

Everybody thinks "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," but seriously, he is one of the great singer-songwriters of the 20th century.

No, REALLY. He is.

However, we went to the shipwreck museum in the Upper Penisula last week. They play the "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" over and over. How do the poor staff at the museum stand it?

158. I like Styx, at least the music before "Cornerstone"
And even a few songs off of that one and "Paradise Theater". "The Best Of Times" was a big hit the year I graduated from high school-although not my favorite song of theirs, it always makes me think of that time.

"Suite Madam Blue" could be a good campaign theme, but americans don't like being told to grow up.

184. Phish and DMB are NOT the same.
Not by a long shot.

Frankly, I'm not a huge Phish fan, as an old-school deadhead I always felt that their scene lacked the spiritual "core" that I used to get at Dead shows, in part (in this deadhead's opinion) because it's not in the music. But that just may be me being old. They're very, very talented musicians-- the first time I saw 'em was in a bar in Chicago with 200 people (insert jealousy here) and I was blown away. Dave Matthews is, in my opinion, jamband lite-- music for fratboys with little baseball hats, an infinite amount of lukewarm, same-sounding songs about sticking his head under his girlfriend's dress (a nice sentiment, to be sure)... Which isn't to say he's not talented-- I think he is-- but he's got the talent to do the whole range from one to ten, and he usually only takes it from 4.3 to 5.7.....

But what do I know. I've been a huge R.E.M. fan since 1983, a fact for which certain people give me no end of shit...

When I was a teenager, I went to a Barry Manilow concert and he was just terrific! I loved the songs and he had such energy! One of the best shows that I ever attended. I bought a shirt at the concert and when I subsequently wore it, all my friends made fun of me. Will you?
