Great "other guys" in famous bands.
It's a rare band that can be famous enough to have each member's name scarred onto the collective mind of society. The only band that comes close to that is, of course, the Beatles. Johnlennonpaulmccartneygeorgeharrisonringostarr is known even to the least enthusiastic music fan. It's almost like it's a priori knowledge, something we know before we are born. But every other band in the world will never be anywhere as universally known as the Beatles. Usually one can name one or two members, but rarely the whole group. But what is often forgotten is that the "other guys" form the platform from which the idols launch into superstardom. So let's hear it for the great other guys in rock history!

Charlie Watts, Ron Wood, Bill Wyman, Brian Jones (the Rolling Stones at different times)

Paul Simonon and Topper Headon (the Clash)

Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce (the Smiths)

Larry Mullins and Adam Clayton (U2)

Okay. I'm out of ideas. Add your own pick. You don't necessarily have to like the band.

The album JPJ did with Diamanda Galas is the proof. It SMOKES anything Plant & Page did after Zeppelin.

Greatest drummer of all time when he was on. I suppose he's quite famous in his own right, but probably a lot of that is due to his untimely death.

Carnie's got better pipes than the other two waifs combined. In a cage match battle royal, she could kick their scrawny little asses.

Sure, Carnie's slimmed down, but she's still all woman. Booyah!

32. Colin Moulding (XTC)
It's kinda funny that with all the great songs that Andy Partridge wrote over the years that, the most popular XTC song is 'Making Plans for Nigel'...which Colin Moulding wrote.

Oh...and he's one of the best bass players ever.

Also Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips. Multi-instrumentalist musical genius. Sure Wayne Coyne is the first guy you think of when you think Lips, but Drozd is the musician in the band. He's great.

Sorry, Eno doesn't count as he left the fold before Roxy really took off.
