Cheeseball songs you love anyway?
I gotta go with Clapton/Babyface's "Change The World".

Air Supply, anyone?

2. OMG
Flock of Seagulls - "Space Age Love Song"

That still makes me melt.

I saw your eyes,
And you made me smile;
For a little while
I was falling in love.

I saw your eyes,
And you touched my mind.
Although it took a while,
I was falling in love.

:loveya:

5. No shame in that one.
The song (and the movie) are supposed to be popular and disposable.

Plus, the Chris Isaak cameo just adds to the coolness.

9. Very true
But it is about as chesseball as I can stand. And yes, Chris Isaak can be a cameo in just about anything and I would be happy.

After I saw him in that and Out of Sight, I was a fan.

7. I love many such songs, one of which is regularly trashed on DU.
"Afternoon Delight." LOVE that song. (Maybe because it's one of the first I played by ear. Realizing I could play by ear was like learning to read. It was life-changing.)

I also like

"You Needed Me" Anne Murray

"Rainbow Connection" Kermit the Frog

"I'm Going To Go Back There Someday" Gonzo the Whatever

"You Left Me Just When I Needed You Most" ???

I'll probably come back with more as they come to me.

Oy!

"Pilot of the Airwaves" Charlie Dore

19. Let The Eagle Soar!
By John "the Crisco Kid" Asscrotch and the Posse Comitatus

Let the eagle soar,
Like she's never soared before.
From rocky coast to golden shore,
Let the mighty eagle soar.
Soar with healing in her wings,
As the land beneath her sings:
"Only god, no other kings."
This country's far too young to die.
We've still got a lot of climbing to do,
And we can make it if we try.
Built by toils and struggles
God has led us through.

Let the eagle soar,
Soar with freedom in her breast
So long as she's appropriately dressed
And not exposing her chest.
As the lands beneath her say
"Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away."
But we shall overcome.
We won't let the First Amendment
stand in our way.
O, let the eagle soar,
but the Bill of Rights ignore
'cause we're in a state of war
Yes, let the mighty eagle soar.

22. I like a lot of that 1970s love music
You know, just you, your Lady, England Dan and John Ford Coley, a bottle of Boone's Farm, a few grams of kind bud, half a gram of Peruvian Flake, a new tube of spermicide and a clean sheet over your beanbag chair.

Here's an incomplete list of the songs of which I speak, roughly in the order of their release:

I Really Want To See You Tonight (England Dan & John Ford Coley)
Moonlight Feels Right (Starbuck)
Brandy, You're A Fine Girl (Looking Glass)
Anything from Hall and Oates
Anything from Kenny Loggins before "Caddyshack"
Cool Night (Paul Davis)
Is It Really Love At All? (Eric Andersen)
Loving You (Minnie Ripperton)
Still The One (Orleans)
No Regrets (Tom Rush)
Dance With Me (Orleans)
Garden Party (Rick(y) Nelson)
Give A Little Bit (Supertramp)
Drift Away (Dobie Gray)
Wildflower (Skylark)
Last Song (Edward Bear)
Come And Get Your Love ((Leon) Redbone)
Rikki Don't Lose That Number (Steely Dan)
Please Come To Boston (Dave Loggins)
Hello, It's Me (Todd Rundgren)
Beach Baby (First Class)
Love Won't Let Me Wait (Major Harris)
Chevy Van (Sammy Johns)
How Long (Ace)
Sarah Smile (Hall and Oates)
Let Your Love Flow (Bellamy Brothers)
Dreamweaver (Gary Wright)
Shannon (Henry Gross)
If You Leave Me Now (Chicago)
Let Her In (John Travolta)
I Like Dreamin' (Kenny Nolan)
When I Need You (Leo Sayer)
On And On (Stephen Bishop)
I Never Cry (Alice Cooper)
Year Of The Cat (Al Stewart)
Baby Come Back (Player)
With A Little Luck (Wings)
Sometimes When We Touch (Dan Hill)
Magnet And Steel (Walter Egan)
Reminiscing (Little River Band)
Fool (If You Think It's Over) (Chris Rea)
Sad Eyes (Robert John)
Just When I Needed You Most (Randy Van Warmer)
Lady (Little River Band)
Love Is The Answer (England Dan & John Ford Coley)
I Just Wanna Stop (Gino Vannelli)
Time Passages (Al Stewart)
How Much I Feel (Ambrosia)
Every Time I Think Of You (The Babys)
Strange Way (Firefall)

And no 70s collection would be complete without:

Ariel (Dean Friedman)

I always wanted a girlfriend like Ariel. And Gawd blessed me with four or five of them. Which is probably why I need therapy to this today.

You know, I hated most of that stuff while I was there -- I was a teenager in the 1970s. But time has rendered my mind mush, so I enjoy the hell out of them now when they come on over the grocery store music system. And some of them really are good songs.

'Cept for the Peruvian marching powder. :-)

I drive reprehensor insane with my nostalgia for bad 70s pop music. I find it more fun to listen to than the standard dinosaur rock.

Cheers!

Left Banke's Pretty Ballerina

Anything and everything by The Association

The New Colony Six's Things I'd Like to Say

April Stevens' Teach Me Tiger

Maestro Raymond Lefevre's Soul Coaxing

Debbie Reynolds' Tammy

Jack Jones' Wives and Lovers

Hip?

You ain't seen nothin' -- that's just a sample.

Cool?

There's time enough to be cool in the grave.
