Very frustrated with ZoneAlarm
I get alerts that there's an update to be downloaded. So I try to download it and it won't download. I've tried using both Mozilla and IE. Is it traffic? Is it me? Are they trying to torture me?

1. Are you running ZAP Pro, and what version?
I got the little "update" message from the program several days ago and updated to the current ZAP Pro, version 5.1.011.000.

What specifically happens when it doesn't download (as in an error message versus nothing happens and no message)...

2. doesn't work with Netscape either
tho i've tried. I finally went to their website to find an update, and instead downloaded the udated version of ZA. Now i kinda regret it, b/c it's only a 15 day free trial....i don't know what i'll have after the 15th day, my older version, or nothing. I have 5 days left.

3. I've been frustrated lately
because it no longer just sits there until I am doing something, but is constantly moving (both the red and green bars). It also gives me a warning that I have no antivirus! (I do)

I'm losing confidence in Zone Alarm.

5. Try Sygate
It's free, it works and it's unobtrusive.

4. ZAP 5.x is junk -- it trashed my entire Windows installation
I loved it up to 4.5 and had been a customer of their's for years and years, but never again. I tried the 5.0 beta, the 5.0 regualar, and when some people on their user board said the 5.1 beta worked, against my better judgement, I tried again. It blue-screened me, wiped out my system restore and when I tried to repair my XP installation, it crashed about halfway through. I had to re-install EVERYTHING.

I don't know what they were thinking releaseing such a defective product to the market but it's costing them thousands of customers.

6. I tried to do a system restore on a relative's computer
and it wouldn't let me. She has XP, and it should happen easily and automatically, but it wouldn't. I tried various dates/points with no success.

I wonder - is this something to do with the latest ZA?

7. That's exactly what happened to me
The restore points were still listed, and it would allow me to click them and start the process, but a minute or so later, it would put up a box saying it was unable to restore.

For me, the fatal blow came the next morning. I had the little bug on the taxkbar for an automatic update and since it had never caused me any problems, I just clicked it -- it was soon obvious that there were big problems. It kept saying couldn't install this and couldn't install that, an it took forever -- at least an hour. When it finally told me to reboot, it failed in the middle and I couldn't repair it.

8. Sorry, but it's working for me.
I've upgraded ZA about 6 times, including a day ago, and have never had a problem. So I doubt it's a problem w/ the download. WinXP here. Good luck.

9. Do you have anything by Norton or McAfee?
That seems to be part of the problem, and I have McAfee Anti-virus.

11. I have ZAPro 5.0.xxx
...and the update is to 5.1.xxx. I have WinXP and Norton Systemworks. I've never had a problem downloading updates to other products.

What happens is I get the little window that tells me down load is in progress, but no progress is made. It's as if it begins and then doesn't move.
