1. I am reminded of a scene in Ron Howard's classic APOLLO 13
Power is everything.

3. Other.
I want the permanent ability to quickly, easily, and efficiently edit universal reality to the full extent of all dimensions, including but not limited to space and time.

My first edit would be to add ten billion dollars to my bank account! :)

5. Alternative Energy Sources
at least give humanity the opportunity to avoid the death of BILLIONS, as will happen as petroleum sources begin their downward spiral past peak production.

6. Only if humanity stops or heavily curtails breeding...
We're waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpopulated as it is. Petrochemical fertilizers is why we've gotten this far.

Can you see people not making children?

A very unpleasant task is going to come up. It's unavoidable. People need to prepare now.

8. Agreed
It will prove a monumental task convincing vast segments of the world that their well-being lies in having fewer children - not more. Many third-world societies see children as their wealth; lacking a social safety net, many people depend on their children to provide for them in old age.

the survival instinct. Every species has the same philosophy.

Only humanity is so obtuse that it would tie wealth and money into the breeding factor. Only humanity uses money. Other species don't have money and they're managing to survive despite humankind...

Sorry to digress. How do we convince humans not to follow through with basic instinct/human nature? We can't. Not completely. Children are also an extension of the parents; to make the parents feel immortal, albeit in an indirect sort of way...
