Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson to tour Minor League ballparks
by Rob Evans liveDaily Editor June 21, 2004 11:54 AM - Music legends Bob Dylan (news | tickets) and Willie Nelson (news | tickets) are set to team this summer for The Bob Dylan Show, a 22-date tour that will visit 22 Minor League baseball stadiums.
Bob Dylan Hot Club of Cowtown Willie Nelson The outing opens on Aug. 6 in Cooperstown, NY--home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum--and runs for nearly a month. Tickets for the first 13 shows are set to hit the market on Saturday (6/26), and tickets for the remaining shows will go on sale on July 10, according to a Columbia Records press release.
"Having produced several of Bob Dylan's concerts in these types of venues over the years, we found that the special atmosphere of a minor league ballpark adds a unique element to his already great shows," said Jerry Mickelson of Jam Productions, the promotion company that assembled the outing. "A complete tour of these ballparks will have fans, young and old, experiencing a great evening of music."
Though the two singer/songwriters have appeared together at many shows in the past, the outing will mark their first tour together. The bill will also include Hot Club of Cowtown (news | tickets), an Austin, TX-based Western/swing band.
Dylan has spent much of the first half of 2004 touring Europe. He recently wrapped up a five city U.S. jaunt with an appearance at Tennessee's Bonnaroo festival.
Nelson recently canceled a series of concert dates due to carpal tunnel syndrome, for which he recently underwent surgery after other treatments failed to improve his condition. He's expected to return to the stage for a John Kerry fundraiser at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on Thursday (6/24). The fundraiser will also feature Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand, Billy Crystal and others.
