I a'nt gonna work on Maggie's farm no more
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 03:18 PM by realisticphish
Thought I would celebrate my 600th post by posting a song thats been going through my head all day... Rage Against The Machine's COVER OF "Maggie's Farm" WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY WRITTEN BY BOB DYLEN (for ya crazy old geezers)...

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
Naw, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
Well, I wake up in the morning,
Fold my hands and pray for rain.
I got a head full of ideas
That are drivin' me insane.
It's a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor.
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.
Naw, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.
Well, he hands you a nickel,
He hands you a dime,
And he asks you with a grin
If you're havin' a good time,
Then he fines you every time you slam the door.
I ain't gonna work for,
Naw, I aint gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.
Well, he puts his cigar
Out in your face just for kicks.
His bedroom window
It is made out of bricks.
The National Guard stands around his door.
Ah, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.
Well, she talks to all the servants
About man and God and law.
Everybody says
She's the brains behind pa.
She's sixty-eight, but she says she's twenty-four.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
Well, I try my best
To be just like I am,
But everybody wants you
To be just like them.
They sing while you slave and I just get bored.
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

17. oh no I've had
probably right around a thousand posts since 2001-I used to be under different names and b/c of computer crashes and so forth I've changed my moniker a couple of times.I was Oustemnow and was the guy who was trying to "out"Rush Limpballs as a junkie way back when.As Casey Stengel used to say"you can look it up"
PS Oustemnow was too close to another name OustTHEM now so I changed-I'm no newbie-but I DO have a life and don't spend my whole life reading political boards too-no implication to you or anyone else

9. Oops didn't know it was dylan
IIRC, the ghost of tom joad is a dylan song, too, right? that would make two dylan covers on the same rage album...interesting

11. Ghost of Tom Joad is Springsteen
Although the Rage covers are interesting, they don't compare to the originals.

15. The best version I've ever heard of that song was . . . .
from the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 . . .Dylan's first electric set ever, and the version of Maggies Farm he opened with ROCKED.
